About This Role

Uppingham Boarding and Day School is looking for Cleaners who want to be part of a warm, friendly team dedicated to making our school feel welcoming, well-kept, and homely. Your work will have a genuine impact on the daily life of our pupils and staff — helping to create calm, comfortable spaces where our community can thrive.

Your working day runs from 9.15am to 2.25pm, offering a predictable daytime routine that fits seamlessly around family life, studies, or other commitments – ideal for those seeking meaningful work within family friendly hours. A daily hot lunch is also provided throughout term time. Extensive added benefits include free Westfield Healthcare, discounts, and free membership of our Sports Centre.

You'll play an important and valued role in keeping our pupil homes looking their very best. Whether you're brightening communal spaces with dusting, sweeping and vacuuming, refreshing carpets and shared areas with deeper cleaning, or supporting daily routines through meal service and laundry, everything you do contributes to a caring, well-maintained environment that feels like home for our pupils.

Hours Available

We currently have several positions available, offering the chance to join a supportive team where your contribution is valued, with the following working hours:

  • 5 days per week, 36 weeks per year plus an additional 105 annual clean down hours. The hours of work are expected to be 9.15am – 2.25pm
  • 6 days per week, 36 weeks per year plus an additional 105 annual clean down hours. The hours of work are expected to be 9.15am – 2.25pm

Additionally, we have morning central cleaning positions across our teaching and office buildings available from 6am. Many of our staff combine various House and Central Cleaning roles.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures
  • Reasonable numeracy and literacy
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, and with others
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to deal with colleagues, pupils and parents in a pleasant and helpful manner
  • Ability to organise workload and balance priorities to meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and high standards of work
  • Good timekeeping
  • Knowledge of health & safety requirements (desirable)
  • An understanding of COSHH (desirable)
  • Previous experience of using industrial cleaning equipment (desirable)
