On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) became one national organisation, focused on continuity today and a stronger, more connected service for tomorrow.
As part of this transformation, NSS and NES have joined to form a new organisation: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland). This new organisation will play a pivotal role in supporting the renewal and ensuring the long-term sustainability of health and care services across Scotland.
About The Organisation
PSD Scotland unites expertise from NES and NSS in a way that will allow us to accelerate national programmes to support the NHS to deliver better care, now and in the future.
We support staff with education and training, provide the tools and data that improve services, and run vital national functions such as procurement, logistics and blood, tissue and cell services.
The Post
This role offers the opportunity to support donors at every stage of the blood donation journey, from reception and health screening through to sample collection, donation, and ongoing care, ensuring a safe and positive experience throughout.
In addition to donor-facing responsibilities, the post involves assisting with the set-up of community donation sessions. This may include the manual handling of equipment cages or trolleys of up to 60kg, undertaken safely with a colleague and without mechanical aid. Full training will be provided to support all aspects of the role.
As part of the Donor Services Blood Collection Team based in Glasgow, the role involves regular travel across the West of Scotland. A flexible approach is essential, with working hours varying to meet service needs, including evenings, weekends, Sundays, and public holidays.
The Candidate
We are seeking a donor carer venepuncturist to join our team, providing high-quality care to donors. Candidates should be friendly, team-oriented, and enjoy meeting people. Requirements include Higher level education and experience in care or customer service, strong written and verbal communication, proficient keyboard skills, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively. Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, remain calm under pressure, follow procedures, and be meticulous, motivated, enthusiastic, and adaptable.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
The post sits within the Donor Services Blood Collection Team and is primarily based at the Glasgow Donor Centre, with regular travel across the West of Scotland to support a variety of community sessions. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that offers variety in both location and experience.
The working pattern is 28 hours per week, scheduled across Monday to Sunday. The role requires a flexible approach to working hours, including evening shifts, weekends and public holidays.
Hours will be worked across a variety of shift patterns, with shift lengths varying depending on the location and timing of both community and donor centre sessions. This reflects the responsive nature of the service and our commitment to meeting donor needs.
It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK and have entitlement to work in the UK for the post in which you will be employed.
