Communications Director
Job Description
The Communications Director is responsible for furthering the mission of Hermitage Hills by ensuring effective communication occurs both inside and outside the church. They will oversee internal communication between staff, ministries, and the congregation, as well as external communication with the community. They will ensure Hermitage Hills’ brand, voice, and target audience is prioritized through all methods of print and digital communication.
Role Overview
The Communications Director exists to clarify and amplify the mission of Hermitage Hills through strategic, consistent, and effective communication.
Primary Responsibilities (Threefold)
Internal Communication to Staff
- Ensure clear, timely, and effective communication across all ministries and staff teams
- Help staff think strategically about messaging, audience, and communication flow
- Serve as a communication partner to ministry leaders, helping shape and refine messaging
- Ensure all internal communication platforms and tools are clear, consistent, and effective
Internal Communication to the Church
- Oversee all communication to the congregation (email, announcements, newsletters, etc.)
- Ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the mission and voice of Hermitage Hills
- Own and manage the church website, ensuring it is current, accurate, engaging, and clearly communicates next steps
- Manage and improve marketing strategies:
- Internal: Invite tools, invite cards, informational cards, etc
- Regularly evaluate and improve how the church communicates key information to members and attenders
External Communication to the Community
- Lead how Hermitage Hills presents itself to the outside world
- Oversee social media, digital marketing, and outreach campaigns
- Manage and improve marketing strategies:
- External: social media ads, direct mailers, billboards, monitor SEO’s, Google analytics
- Ensure all external communication is compelling, culturally aware, and mission-driven
- Leverage the website and digital platforms as primary front doors for first-time guests
Additional Key Responsibilities
- Lead and own the overall communication strategy aligned with the mission and priorities of the church
- Own and manage the communication calendar, prioritizing key messages and protecting clarity
- Identify, capture, and communicate stories of life change
- Ensure all communication helps people take clear next steps toward discipleship
- Track, measure, and evaluate communication effectiveness using data and insights
- Manage and Improve signage throughout the building (both internal and external signage)
- Recruit, develop, and lead teams of staff, volunteers, and contractors
- Protect the clarity and effectiveness of communication by filtering or refining requests
- Coordinate communication needs for Sunday services and major initiatives
- Be present on Sundays to ensure communication systems are executed with excellence
