About The Role
OCS is looking for an experienced Drainage Engineer to join our team supporting a leading UK broadcasting and media organisation.
You will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and repair of environmental water and drainage systems across the site, ensuring systems remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.
The role requires strong practical engineering knowledge, particularly across water treatment, water systems, drainage, and associated equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain building water systems in line with ACOP L8, HSG 274 Parts 1, 2, and 3, Water Fittings Regulations, and relevant site procedures.
- Inspect, fault-find, and repair water treatment equipment, including water softeners, dosing pumps, and associated systems.
- Carry out monitoring and maintenance of environmental water systems and equipment.
- Undertake drainage maintenance, including:
- Foul drainage systems
- Grease traps
- Penstocks
- Gullies
- Soil stacks
- Sump pumps
- Interceptors
- Carry out CCTV/camera surveys of drainage systems when required.
- Clean, inspect, fault-find, and arrange remedial works on drainage, interceptors, sump pumps, and associated equipment.
- Respond to environmental water issues, including Legionella risks, flooding, drainage issues, and public health concerns.
- Maintain accurate water and environmental system logbooks and records.
- Liaise with specialist contractors and subcontractors to resolve water and environmental system issues.
- Review and update relevant drawings, schematics, and system documentation.
- Ensure high-risk activities, including sump and interceptor cleaning, are carried out in accordance with approved RAMS, Safe Systems of Work, and Permit to Work procedures.
- Identify faults and escalate issues where specialist support or further remedial works are required.
- Support the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance activities across the site.
- Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and ensure work areas are left safe and clean.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OCS health, safety, environmental, and compliance procedures.
- Work in accordance with approved RAMS, Safe Systems of Work, and Permit to Work requirements.
- Report accidents, near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions through the appropriate systems.
- Complete all mandatory training and maintain required competency levels.
- Use all required PPE and safety equipment.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with current legislation, industry standards, and site procedures.
- Be willing to undertake First Aid training and associated duties where required.

Contractor & Supply Chain Management
- Liaise with subcontractors and specialist contractors working on water and environmental systems.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure work is completed safely, to specification, and within agreed timescales.
- Provide feedback on contractor performance and identify opportunities to improve service delivery.
- Identify opportunities to bring suitable outsourced services in-house where appropriate.
Client & Customer Service
- Build and maintain a professional working relationship with the client, site teams, and end users.
- Respond promptly and professionally to water and environmental system issues.
- Maintain clear communication with relevant stakeholders throughout planned and reactive works.
- Ensure actions arising from inspections, faults, and client feedback are recorded and followed through to completion.
- Support the delivery of agreed service levels, KPIs, and SLAs.
IT & Administration
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logbooks, and reports.
- Use relevant CAFM, maintenance, and reporting systems effectively.
- Maintain proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Produce clear and concise written reports where required.
Person Specification
Essential
- Practical engineering experience within water systems, water treatment, plumbing, or environmental services.
- Knowledge of domestic and commercial water systems.
- Experience working with equipment such as water softeners, pumps, and dosing systems.
- Understanding of Legionella control and the risks associated with water systems.
- Good understanding of safe working practices and Permit to Work procedures.
- Ability to fault-find and undertake practical maintenance activities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Desirable / Advantageous
- Experience of cooling tower operation and maintenance.
- Legionella/Legionnaires' disease training, including cooling tower awareness.
- Water Fittings Regulations and backflow prevention training, such as BPEC.
- TMV maintenance training.
- Confined Space training.
- Relevant City & Guilds or equivalent water systems qualifications.
- Experience working within a large commercial, industrial, or critical environment.
