Based in Sussex and operating nationwide, SOUTH DOWNS SITE INVESTIGATION LTD brings over 16 years of dedicated site investigation experience, supported by an additional 15 years in general site work. The company delivers a range of specialist services including windowless sampling, restricted access windowless sampling, hand-held window sampling, and concrete coring. It also undertakes hand-dug foundation and inspection pits, BRE 365 soakage testing, structural opening up works, and onsite sampling and logging. Joining the team offers exposure to diverse projects across the UK, with a strong focus on practical, high-quality ground investigation services for a wide range of clients.
Role Description
The Drilling Tech/Drilling Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Haywards Heath and travelling to various sites across the south, supporting the delivery of ground and site investigation services. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with windowless sampling, soakage testing and restricted access drilling operations under the direction of senior staff. The role involves setting up and maintaining drilling equipment, supporting concrete coring and hand-dug foundation/inspection pits, and performing basic structural opening up works. The Drilling Tech/Drilling Assistant will help with onsite sampling and logging, ensuring accurate records, safe work practices, and clean, orderly work areas. The position may require travel to various sites nationwide, working outdoors in varying conditions and collaborating closely with the wider investigation team.

- Practical skills in handling basic tools and equipment, with the ability to support drilling, coring, and excavation tasks safely and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in onsite sampling, logging, and recording of site data.
- Awareness of health and safety practices, including safe manual handling and working in outdoor and construction environments.
- Ability to follow instructions, work as part of a site team, and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
- Willingness to work on varied sites nationwide, including early starts, outdoor work, and occasional extended hours as required.
- Full UK driving licence (or ability to reliably travel to Haywards Heath and project sites) is highly beneficial.
- Previous experience in site investigation, construction, drilling, or related fieldwork is an advantage but not essential; training can be provided.
- Right to work in the UK and capability to perform the physical aspects of the role safely.
