Description

Key Responsibilities
Our Driver Managers play a key role in leading and supporting teams of drivers, ensuring the highest standards of operational safety while contributing to train performance and delivering an excellent customer experience.
In this role, you'll be empowered to make decisions, bring new ideas to the table, and influence initiatives that help shape the future of the business.
As part of the Driver Management team, you'll have the opportunity to build on the skills and experience you've gained as a driver, using your expertise to coach, support and develop others to achieve their full potential.
We'll invest in your development through management and leadership training, helping you succeed in the role while supporting your longer-term career aspirations.
Managing a driver workforce is a 24/7 operation, offering a varied and rewarding role with the opportunity to take ownership of your workload and priorities. You'll work closely with colleagues across the organisation, building strong cross-functional relationships and playing an important part in driving business performance and continuous improvement.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Current or recent competence as a Train Driver or Driver Manager, with at least 4 of the last 5 years spent in one of these roles.
- A valid ETDL qualification and accompanying certification.
- The ability to meet all requirements set out within our operational standards.
- A strong knowledge of railway operational rules, regulations and procedures.
- Experience of maintaining and promoting high standards of safety and quality.
- Willingness to provide consent for the disclosure of previous employment and safety performance records where required.
- Train driving competence is an essential part of this role, and you will be required to undertake driving duties to maintain your competency.
- Strong leadership capability, excellent attention to detail and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced operational environment.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach, with a commitment to continuous development both professionally and personally.
- A customer-focused mindset and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent service.
- Flexibility to work shifts and participate in an on-call rota when required.
- A thorough understanding of the rules, regulations, safety requirements and quality standards associated with train operations.
- The ability to interpret operational data and technical information, and communicate insights clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.

This is an opportunity to combine your operational expertise with leadership responsibilities, helping to develop and support drivers while contributing to a safe, high-performing and customer-focused railway. You'll play an important role in shaping team performance, driving continuous improvement and supporting the success of the wider business.
To ensure continuity and an effective delivery of service, successful candidates will be required to commit to a minimum 14-month period in role after achieving competence. This also includes existing colleagues who move by internal promotions and transfers. This time allows our future colleagues to support personal career development by allowing time to build strong knowledge and expertise.
