Driver Manager - Based at Birmingham New Street


Key Responsibilities

Our Driver Managers lead a team of drivers in ensuring operational safety, whilst contributing to improving train performance and achieving customer satisfaction targets.

  • You will be empowered to make decisions, ‘think outside the box’ and influence business initiatives.
  • As a member of the driver management team, you will get to take the skills and experience you have gained in the driving grade and utilise these to help develop others.
  • We’ll provide training to further upskill you in the realm of management and leadership, that will not only help you do the job, but also develop your career.
  • The management of drivers is a 24/7/365 operation. You will have more control over your time management and get to interface with other functions across the business as a whole; building cross functional relationships, helping drive the business forward.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Held competence as a train driver or train driver manager for 4 of the last 5 years.
  • Hold an ETDL with accompanying certificate.
  • Meet all requirements set in our operational standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of operational rules and regulations.
  • Experience of managing safety and quality standards.
  • Provide consent to the disclosure of any previous employment and safety performance from previous employers.
  • Train driving competency is an essential element of the role, so you will be required to drive trains to maintain this competency.

Ideally you will also demonstrate:

  • Excellent leadership skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver business objectives - in a demanding operational environment.
  • Personal motivation – both as a driver and a manager.
  • A customer service focus - demonstrating a genuine passion for customer satisfaction.
  • Flexibility – working shifts and being on-call.
  • A strong understanding of the rules, regulations, safety and quality standards associated with train driving.
  • The ability to interpret data and technical information and communicate clearly with others.
