As well as electrifying our main routes, and upgrading key stations, we have carried out the biggest upgrade of trains in the country. The Procurement team have an essential role to play in the success of GWR through our strategic sourcing and our approach to supplier management.
About the job:
An excellent opportunity to join our Operational Management team at Reading depot, providing support and development for our team of trainee and experienced Drivers.
As a Driver Standards Manager, you'll play a key role in delivering for our customers by keeping our services moving around the clock, driving performance improvements, and ensuring our Drivers are equipped with all the tools and knowledge to allow them to deliver a first-class service.
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Line management of a Driver team, providing welfare support, management of attendance records and development
- Delivery of GWR’s competence management systems for safety critical operational staff, focusing primarily on Drivers.
- Assessing and developing operational competence, particularly train driving performance to deliver improvements in line with company and industry requirements
- Incident/accident investigations and due diligence checks
- Safety briefing of Drivers
- Involvement in Operational Training of Drivers
- On call commitment

What we’re looking for:
- An enthusiastic individual with mainline Qualified Train Driver competence
- A strong team player with previous line management experience
- An excellent communicator who can supply subject matter expertise relating to the development of company standards and working practices
- A methodical approach to work with good Microsoft office skills and experience of maintaining accurate records
- A D31/D32 or A1 certification would be an advantage, although training in this area can be provided
