Job Purpose

The Water Tanker Driver plays a vital role in delivering clean water to communities through the organisation’s CSI initiative, directly improving community well-being and access to essential services. This role supports corporate responsibility objectives, and contributes positively to the company’s reputation and stakeholder trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support regional CSI programmes aimed at alleviating water scarcity and build awareness of Star Bakeries brand, by:
    • Loading and offloading water
    • Driving the water tanker safely to designated community areas
    • Maintaining accurate delivery records and route documentation to ensure adherence to planned route
  • Ensure adherence to the health and safety SOP for the municipality by:
    • Connecting the tanker to the water distribution point
    • Using the pump system correctly
    • Loading and offloading water in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Support vehicle road worthiness by:
    • Conducting daily vehicle inspections
    • Reporting mechanical faults to transport department
    • Ensuring that all faults have been attended to prior to leaving the site
  • Maintain a professional brand for Star Bakeries/Premier by:
    • Engaging respectfully with community members during water distribution
    • Arriving on time as per plan
    • Wearing the Premier driver uniform as per requirements
  • Liaise with the Bakery Sales Manager on:
    • Any new delivery requests
    • Risks identified on route and participate in the Bakery Sales Invocom
    • Ad hoc support to the Bakery Sales team with occasional replenishment deliveries

  • Matric with driver’s licenses (Code EC/14 and PRDP)
  • First aid and defensive driving certificates
  • Driving heavy motor vehicles in rural areas (e.g., water tanker or similar truck)
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance practices
  • Community service delivery, logistics, or distribution environments

Working Conditions

  • Be prepared to work extended hours when required
  • Working hours must be flexible (shift work)
  • Pressurised environment
  • 6-day position
  • Required to work Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays as per shift roster
  • Required to work in alternative areas as required by the business
