Driver / General Operative – 3 Month Contract

Location: Telford Street, Newport, NP19 0ES

Rate: £17.67 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract: 3 Month Contract

Hours: Full Time

Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 1:54pm

Pay: Bi-weekly


Summary

Join our dynamic Environmental Services team as a Driver / General Operative on a 3-month contract. This pivotal role involves both street cleansing and vehicle driving, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of public spaces throughout the city. You will work closely with Supervisors and Managers to deliver essential frontline services efficiently and effectively.


Responsibilities

  • Perform daily street cleansing tasks according to operational schedules.
  • Drive council vehicles as needed, adhering to all driver procedures.
  • Complete assigned routes safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in supervising Cleansing Operatives when working in a team.
  • Uphold high standards of cleanliness in public areas.
  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate PPE and uniform.
  • Promptly report any accidents, incidents, defects, or hazards.
  • Support additional cleansing and environmental tasks as directed.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the public.

Essential Requirements

  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physically fit for walking, lifting, bending, and carrying tasks.
  • Capable of working independently and within a team.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet schedules, targets, and deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a positive outlook.
  • Willingness to learn and engage in training.

Desirable

  • Experience in Street Cleansing, Refuse Collection, Environmental Services, or similar fields.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with the local area.
