Driving Education Course Leader

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Barnsley College as a Driving Education Course Leader, leading the development and delivery of our innovative driving education and simulator provision.
In this unique role, you will create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning experience that helps students develop driving knowledge, confidence, and practical awareness. Through the delivery of simulator sessions, theory test preparation, road safety education, and related activities, you will support students to progress into driving lessons, vocational driving opportunities, and employment.
You will manage and develop the College's driving simulator provision, providing inductions, safety briefings, and ongoing guidance to students and departments using the equipment.
You will also oversee the day-to-day operation of the simulator and associated technologies, ensuring equipment is maintained, software updates are completed, and health and safety requirements are met.
Working closely with curriculum teams, Student Services, local driving instructors, and external partners, you will help remove barriers to student progression and create opportunities that promote independence, confidence, and employability.
The role will also contribute to the future development of the College's theory test centre and support the promotion of driving education opportunities across the College.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified driving professional to lead an innovative programme that enhances the student experience and supports learners to achieve important life and career goals.
About You
You will be a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) with relevant professional experience in driving instruction, driver education, or driver training, and hold a full, clean UK driving licence.
You will have experience supporting, training, or instructing young people and/or adults in a learning environment and possess a strong understanding of driver teaching methodologies.
You will be able to simplify complex driving theory, adapt your approach to meet individual learner needs, and provide clear, constructive feedback that supports progress and achievement.
You will be confident in developing engaging personal development activities and implementing strategies to improve student engagement and success. Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a range of stakeholders will be essential.

Required
- DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Relevant professional experience in driving instruction, driver education, or driver training.
- Experience of supporting, training, or instructing young people and/or adults in a learning environment.
- Ability to devise and deliver personal development activities.
- Ability to develop strategies that improve engagement and achievement.
- Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to support learning.
- Knowledge of a range of driver teaching methodologies.
- Ability to simplify complex driving theory and deliver tailored support to learners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
