Drupal Developer

Introduction

Other Media is a leading digital agency dedicated to transforming the sports industry through cutting-edge digital experiences. We combine data-driven strategy, fan-centric design, and seamless engineering to build and maintain award-winning web platforms, apps, and ecosystem integrations for top-tier sports clubs, governing bodies, and venues. Through continuous internal R&D, we stay ahead of tech trends to keep our clients leading from the front.

We are looking to grow our development team with an additional Drupal PHP Developer who will work closely with support, product, UX, and project teams to maintain our Drupal CMS installations, modules, and integrations. These modules vary from engagement tools such as polling and push notifications to identity modules integrating SSO, data services, analytics, and various third-party API integrations.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects across the sports sector. They will also be able to assist with maintaining and improving our developer tooling, CI/CD, and testing infrastructure, in addition to being a key member of the team providing new capabilities and integrations to our growing platform.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and improving all existing CMS features, modules, and integrations.
  • Maintaining and improving our SSO integrations.
  • Working with third parties to provide custom integrations with REST APIs.
  • When new features are requested, designing and implementing highly scalable and resilient modules with functional test coverage, all the way from the requirements analysis stage to the delivery of the feature.
  • Participating in team code review practices, reviewing code from other teams, and working with them to review your own code.
  • Leading end-to-end testing to ensure high-quality delivery to the product and project teams.
  • Implementing and maintaining features and integration modules within Drupal which is also based on the Symfony framework.
  • Maintaining automated test, lint, and static analysis pipelines in GitHub Actions.
  • Maintaining and owning secure deployment processes.
  • Assisting operations team with daily monitoring regiments to identify issues early.
  • Providing out-of-hours on-call support on a rotation basis.

Ideal Skills and Experience

  • Excellent PHP language skills.
  • Excellent Drupal 11+ knowledge and experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Drupal internals and their design patterns: Container, Dependency Injection, Routing, Form API, Plugin API, Cache Bins, Variation Cache, Queues, Key Value, User Data, Compiler Passes, Drush Commands, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of Drupal core modules such as rest, migrate, image (styles and toolkits), responsive_image, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience customising backend interfaces and
  • Experience designing API integrations and workflows that minimise impact on page speed.
  • Experience writing and running Functional tests.
  • Excellent SQL knowledge, especially optimisation and indexes.
  • Experience designing well-documented internal API contracts between modules as part of the design process, taking full advantage of Drupal Plugins and Hooks.
  • Experience with OpenSearch querying.
  • Experience using GitHub Actions and either Claude or Copilot CLI.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Git and GitHub, and following code review practices.
  • Excellent security awareness and knowledge of OWASP.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent bash and/or zsh scripting skills.
  • Experience with JavaScript, React, Babel, Webpack.
  • Some experience setting up and maintaining secure LEMP hosting (Linux, Nginx, MariaDB, PHP) and configuring Varnish, Redis, and/or Memcache is desirable.
