About Environment & Safety
SOCOTEC’s Environment and Safety team provides expert environmental, health, and safety consultancy and compliance services that help organisations manage risk, protect people, and safeguard the environment. Our services include environmental monitoring and consultancy, water safety and hygiene solutions with Legionella risk assessments and water system management, fire safety consultancy and inspections, DSEAR Consultancy and inspections, occupational hygiene assessments and workplace exposure monitoring, and specialist advisory support on regulatory and sustainability challenges. We use industry-leading tools and science-based approaches to deliver accurate data, practical guidance, and innovative solutions that ensure compliance with UK legislation, minimise environmental impact, and create healthier, safer workplaces for clients.

Job Description
DSEAR Consultant - Homebased, travelling nationwide
Join SOCOTEC as a DSEAR Consultant and play a key role in helping clients manage risk, stay compliant, and keep people safe.
As part of our growing Environment & Safety Division, you'll be the expert our clients turn to for clear, practical DSEAR guidance—carrying out professional risk assessments and hazardous area classifications across a wide range of sites, reviewing equipment compliance with ATEX/DSEAR requirements, and advising on practical corrective actions that help organisations meet their obligations under the DSEAR Regulations 2002 and ACOP L138.

You'll liaise directly with clients to explain findings and build trusted relationships, stay current with evolving legislation and best practice, and work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues on multi-disciplinary projects. The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to)
- Deliver expert DSEAR assessments, advising clients on corrective actions and compliance with DSEAR Regulations 2002 and ACOP L138
- Provide end-to-end DSEAR consultancy—from hazardous area classification and equipment selection (ATEX) to developing practical engineering solutions
- Prepare prioritised action plans, HAC schedules, and zone drawings (if required) to support safe design and operation
- Ensure all work meets SOCOTEC standards, policies, and client requirements
- Continuously develop your professional skills and support business growth by identifying new opportunities
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience working with and advising on DSEAR regulations.
- Experience preparing HAC schedules and hazardous area drawing mark-ups.
- Knowledge of ATEX equipment selection and ignition risks from mechanical sources.
- Strong technical, customer service, and communication skills, with the ability to provide practical, client-focused advice.
- Well organised, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
