DTOA Support Co-ordinator - 2 Positions Available

Location: Working across the Northumbria Police Force area

Contract: Fixed-Term Until 31st March 2027

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm, with a 30 minute early finish on Fridays

Salary: £25,877 – £34,240 per annum

Please note: The salary listed reflects the full earning potential for this role. Starting salaries depend on experience and progression within the band.

About the role

We are looking for a DTOA Support Co-ordinator to join our Drug Test on Arrest (DTOA) service, providing support to individuals who have received a positive drug test following arrest within Northumbria Police custody suites.

This is a really rewarding and interesting role where you will work both within custody settings and out in the local community, providing individuals with the support, advice and interventions they need to reduce the risk of returning to custody, you will manage a caseload of individuals, working alongside them to understand their needs and develop personalised support plans.

  • Carry out assessments, risk assessments and risk management plans, ensuring that people receive the right support at the right time.
  • Provide brief interventions, harm reduction advice, signposting and onward referrals across areas including substance use, mental health, employment, gambling, violence and domestic abuse.
  • Work closely with colleagues, custody staff and a wide range of external agencies and professionals.
  • Maintain accurate records, completing case notes and ensuring information is recorded promptly on the relevant management information systems.

About you

We are looking for someone who can build positive relationships with people and adapt their approach to meet individual needs.

You will need:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or an equivalent qualification or above.
  • A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Experience of working with people with multiple needs and/or people who are vulnerable.
  • Experience of completing assessments, risk assessments and support plans.
  • An understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
  • An understanding of risk assessment and risk management.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records and using management information systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting people who misuse substances and/or those involved in domestic or serious violence.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with service users, professionals, family members and carers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Outlook.

Experience of multi-agency working, working within a criminal justice or secure environment, and knowledge of harm reduction would also be beneficial.
