The Role

The Duty Engineer is responsible for preparing, coordinating, and monitoring aircraft production at a shift level. The successful candidate will be based in the area production office or within the Base Maintenance Support Group and they will work with other Duty Engineers to allocate work to the shift team, monitor progress, and plan ahead for the following team coming on duty.

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Engineering Base Maintenance team at Heathrow and support the exceptional delivery of aircraft to our customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver the operation to defined production targets ensuring adherence to the maintenance plan and aircraft compliance.
  • Provide effective leadership of maintenance colleagues, setting and managing clear expectations to deliver the operation on the day.
  • Allocate tasks as required by the maintenance plan.
  • Provide support as first point of contact for operational colleagues and give technical feedback and escalation as appropriate to Satellite, Technical specialists, and Planning.
  • Support incident and accident management company procedures.
  • Champion high-quality standards, monitor trends, and coordinate continuous improvement in order to define and implement permanent solutions.
  • To ensure communication of aircraft in work status, and coordinate requirements between Planning and Production departments.
  • Capture and analyze data, ensuring performance targets are achieved against operational measures.
  • Engage with and manage internal and external key stakeholders and customer relationships.
  • Support the development of a high-performance team and culture, in line with the company Hallmarks.

What You’ll Bring To British Airways

  • Stakeholder Management

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to progress complex aircraft maintenance tasks and inputs.
  • Desirable knowledge of working in an Engineering satellite.
  • Calm and professional when working in an operational environment.
  • Able to maintain a balance of quality, safety, delivery, and cost to support the integrity of the operation.
  • Ability to prioritize and allocate tasks to the appropriate resource.
  • Strong IT Literacy

Your Experience

  • Aircraft maintenance A licence, or Engineering degree, or recognised aircraft apprenticeship with demonstrable experience of working in an aircraft maintenance environment.
  • Desirable to hold an Authorisation on relevant Aircraft Types.
  • Valid full UK driving licence (or equivalent) (desirable).
  • Ability to hold an airport restricted zone access (essential for Terminal based role).
  • Ability to hold an airside driving licence (desirable).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Part 145 maintenance at supervisory level.
  • Desirable knowledge of working in an Engineering Satellite.
  • Strong working level of SAP transactions.
  • Good knowledge of safety and quality management systems.
