Are you ready to manage a dynamic sports and leisure facility and deliver outstanding customer service? Abingdon School has an exciting Duty Manager opportunity!
Location: Park Road, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, OX14 1DE
Salary: £29,336 - £30,950 (full-time equivalent, plus £500 annual retention bonus)
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (variable shifts including evenings and weekends)

About Us
The Foundation comprises two schools: Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School, as well as Abingdon School Enterprises. Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. Currently a boys’ school, it will become co-educational from September 2026.
Abingdon Prep School is a vibrant and warm day preparatory school with around 200 pupils aged 4-13 which has been co-educational since last year. Both Schools are situated in beautiful and extensive grounds, with the senior school in the heart of Abingdon on Thames, just south of Oxford, and the Prep School located a few miles away in nearby Frilford.
Duty Manager - The Role
Duty Managers run our facilities safely and efficiently, managing small teams and ensuring all policies and procedures are implemented. The role is hands-on and varied, involving direct customer liaison, operational management, team leadership and administrative work. You will work with the general public, clubs, organisations and the school PE department during term time. Full-time roles involve rotating shifts across seven days including evenings and weekends. Part-time, weekend and evening-only positions are also available.

Duty Manager - Key Responsibilities
- Manage team members and ensure staffing levels meet business requirements
- Open, prepare and close facilities safely and on time, following all operating procedures
- Deliver first-class customer service, handle enquiries and manage complaints effectively
- Oversee facility cleanliness, equipment setup and event preparation
- Operate booking systems and EPOS tills, handling cashing up and stock control
- Manage health and safety compliance, including risk assessments, incident reporting and mandatory training
- Work poolside as a lifeguard or behind the bar as required, depending on location
Duty Manager - You
- Previous experience in customer service or facility management
- Friendly, professional manner with excellent communication skills
- Good IT skills and strong administrative abilities
- Positive, flexible attitude with genuine commitment to safeguarding children
- Willing and able to apply for a Personal Licence to sell alcohol
- Desirable: sports or leisure industry experience, relevant qualifications, or gym fitness instructor qualification
