Organisation: Bromsgrove Community Arts

Venue: Artrix Theatre, Bromsgrove

Job Title: Duty Manager

Hours: 37.5 paid hours per week, plus 2.5 hours of unpaid breaks

Total attendance: 40 hours per week

Reporting to: Chairman / Chief Executive Officer

Salary: £28,000-£30,000 (Subject to experience)

Contract: Permanent

Key Responsibilities

Audience & Front-of-House Management

  • Take overall responsibility for the management of audiences whilst they are within the venue.
  • Ensure audiences are welcomed, supported and managed professionally.
  • Oversee front-of-house volunteers and allocate duties appropriately.
  • Ensure that front-of-house areas are adequately staffed for performances and events with input with the daytime venue manager and evening venue manager.
  • Manage audience entry, seating, latecomers, accessibility requirements, queues and general audience movement.
  • Deal professionally with customer enquiries, complaints and difficult situations.
  • Ensure that the venue provides a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors.
  • Monitor the audience throughout performances and events and take appropriate action where necessary.
  • Liaise with visiting companies and event organisers regarding audience and front-of-house requirements.
  • Complete daily show reports and generate ticket reporting via box office systems.
  • Assist Box Office team where necessary.
  • Assist Usher teams where necessary.

Building & Venue Operations

  • Act as the responsible Duty Manager for the venue during allocated shifts.
  • Ensure the building is safe, secure and appropriately prepared for public use.
  • Carry out appropriate opening and closing procedures.
  • Monitor the condition of public areas and report maintenance or operational issues.
  • Ensure that venue policies and procedures are followed.
  • Liaise with the appropriate member of the Artrix management team regarding significant operational issues.
  • Act as a point of contact for staff, volunteers, visiting companies and contractors whilst on duty.

Health & Safety

  • Take an active role in maintaining high standards of health and safety throughout the venue.
  • Identify and report hazards and take immediate appropriate action where necessary.
  • Ensure that public areas remain safe and accessible.
  • Ensure that relevant health and safety procedures are followed by staff and volunteers.
  • Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents and emergencies.
  • Complete or ensure completion of appropriate incident and accident reports.
  • Escalate serious or significant incidents to the Chairman / Chief Executive Officer or other appropriate senior person.
  • Ensure that venue policies are followed.

Emergency Procedures & Evacuation

The Duty Manager will have a key responsibility for the management of audiences and the public during an emergency. This will include:

  • Taking appropriate control of audience management during an emergency.
  • Initiating or assisting with the evacuation of the building where required.
  • Ensuring that front-of-house volunteers understand their responsibilities during an evacuation.
  • Liaising with emergency services when required.
  • Ensuring that appropriate emergency procedures are followed.
  • Remaining calm and providing clear instructions to staff, volunteers and members of the public.
  • Managing the re-entry of audiences to the building only when it is safe and authorised to do so.
  • Reporting and documenting significant emergencies and incidents.

Misc Duties:

Where necessary:

  • Assist the box office team with enquiries.
  • Assist the bar team with service.
  • Assist the ushers with ensuring public spaces are tidy.
  • Assist venue management team to ensure private hire rooms are ready for use.
  • Assist venue management team with input to shifts and rotas.
