Duty Manager

The Light, Durham | Permanent | 24 hours per week (with additional hours available) | Grade 6 £28,142 - £31,022 pro rata
Opening in August 2026, The Light is County Durham's exciting new cultural destination, bringing together art, science, history, creativity, and community in a world-class venue expected to welcome up to 100,000 visitors each year.
We are seeking two exceptional Duty Managers to join our team and play a defining role in launching and shaping this landmark cultural venue from day one. This is a unique opportunity to help create outstanding visitor experiences while supporting the day-to-day operation of an ambitious and dynamic new organisation.
About the Role
As Duty Manager, you will support the Operations Manager in delivering safe, welcoming, and efficient daily operations across the venue. You will lead Front of House teams, ensure excellent customer service standards, drive commercial performance, and help create memorable experiences for all visitors.

You will play a key role in maintaining high operational standards, ensuring health and safety compliance, and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a confident and motivated team leader who:
- Has experience leading Front of House or customer-facing teams in a cultural, visitor attraction, hospitality, leisure, or similar environment
- Delivers exceptional customer service and visitor experiences
- Has a strong understanding of health and safety, compliance, and operational best practice
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities
- Has experience working towards income targets through retail, catering, venue hire, or other commercial activity
- Is passionate about accessibility, inclusion, and community engagement
An NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) and a First Aid qualification, or willingness to work towards one, are essential.
