Job Title: DV Cleared Backup & Storage Engineer
Location
Stevenage - 5 days per week onsite
Duration
12 Months with possible extension
Rate
Up to £430 per day via an approved umbrella company
Requirements
- Must be willing and eligible to go through the DV vetting process
Working Hours
You will work a 37-hour week across a shift pattern, typically:
- 07:00 - 15:30, or
- 10:30 - 19:00
There is no regular weekend working; however, overtime may be available, including occasional weekend activities to support project or operational requirements.
About the Role
We are currently looking for an experienced Backup & Storage Engineer to join a specialist team of 2nd and 3rd Line Infrastructure Engineers supporting a high-profile and secure customer environment.
Working from our Stevenage site, you will play a key role in the support, administration, development, and continuous improvement of enterprise-scale storage and backup platforms. This is an excellent opportunity to work with leading technologies including NetApp Storage, Cohesity, VMware, and SAN infrastructure within a highly secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and manage large-scale NetApp Storage and Cohesity Backup environments across multiple data centres.
- Monitor infrastructure health, performance, availability, and resilience, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within agreed SLAs and KPIs.
- Handle and support Severity 1 and Severity 2 incidents, providing technical input and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) where required.
- Administer and maintain NAS and SAN storage environments.
- Manage VMware integrations within the storage estate.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot SAN fabric switches and zoning requirements.
- Perform capacity planning, forecasting, and reporting to identify potential constraints and risks.
- Plan, schedule, and implement storage software and firmware upgrades in line with change management processes.
- Install, configure, and commission new storage and backup infrastructure components.
- Raise, document, and present technical change requests to support infrastructure improvements.
- Contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives and operational best practices.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, processes, and procedural guides.
- Share technical knowledge across the wider support team to enhance capability and service delivery.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with security policies, change control processes, and configuration management standards.
- Maintain the security and integrity of storage and backup services within a highly secure environment.

Essential Skills Include
- Experience supporting NetApp Storage environments within enterprise organisations.
- Understanding of NetApp Storage Hardware platforms.
- Strong knowledge of NAS and SAN technologies and administration principles.
- Experience integrating VMware environments with storage solutions.
- Ability to investigate and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
- Experience working within ITIL-aligned service management environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure support processes, including Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.

- Experience with Cohesity Backup Platforms.
- SAN switch administration and zoning.
- Data centre infrastructure support.
- Capacity management and reporting.
- Experience within highly regulated or secure customer environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
