Early Years Assessor

Purpose
The Assessor is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, learner support and embedded Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) throughout the learner journey. The role supports learners from initial assessment and onboarding through to progression, completion and destination tracking.
The Assessor provides learner-centred information, advice and guidance to support informed decision-making relating to learning, skills development, employability and progression opportunities. Where learner needs fall outside the scope of the role, the Assessor will refer or escalate concerns to the appropriate internal or external specialist support services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teaching, Learning and Assessment
- Deliver high-quality teaching, training and assessment across allocated programmes.
- Prepare and deliver engaging face-to-face, online and blended learning sessions using approved learning materials.
- Act as course tutor and assessor, taking responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of assigned programmes.
- Assess learner work and evidence against qualification requirements and provide developmental feedback within 5 working days of submission.
- Undertake workplace observations and assessments where applicable.
- Integrate English, maths and employability skills into vocational delivery.
- Support learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for successful progression into employment or further learning.

2. Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
- Provide impartial Information, Advice and Guidance throughout the learner journey, from onboarding through to progression and completion.
- Support learners to identify personal, learning and career goals.
- Assist learners to explore progression opportunities, employment routes and further learning options.
- Use initial assessment, reviews and learner discussions to identify barriers to learning and progression.
- Develop and review learner action plans, ensuring agreed actions are clear and achievable.
- Signpost and refer learners to internal or external specialist services where needs fall outside the scope of the role.
- Maintain accurate records of IAG discussions, learner goals and progression activities.
3. Learner Support, Engagement and Progression
- Complete initial assessments and identify learner support requirements.
- Provide ongoing learner support to promote engagement, achievement and retention.
- Recognise and support Additional Learning Needs and implement reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
- Monitor learner attendance, welfare, progress and achievement.
- Proactively support learners who may be at risk of withdrawal and work collaboratively to identify appropriate interventions.
- Promote learner confidence, independence and employability.
- Support learners to prepare for interviews, work placements and employment opportunities where appropriate.
4. Safeguarding, Prevent and Wellbeing
- Promote safeguarding, wellbeing and learner welfare at all times.
- Deliver and reinforce safeguarding, Prevent, British Values, Personal Development, health and safety, behaviour and welfare themes within teaching and learner support activities.
- Identify, record and report safeguarding concerns in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Refer safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy DSL.
- Understand confidentiality boundaries and circumstances where information must be shared to protect learners or others from harm.
- Contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
5. Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely and confidential learner records.
- Ensure all learner documentation is completed in accordance with organisational, awarding body and funding requirements.
- Contribute to quality assurance activities, curriculum development and continuous improvement.
- Support monitoring, evaluation and review processes.
- Adhere to all organisational policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of delivery and learner support.
- Comply with Data Protection, GDPR and Information Security requirements.

6. Professional Development
- Maintain vocational, teaching and IAG knowledge through continuous professional development.
- Attend CPD, standardisation activities, training events and team meetings as required.
- Participate fully in supervision, appraisal and performance review processes.
- Keep up to date with sector developments, funding requirements, legislation and awarding body expectations.
7. Professional Standards and Role Boundaries
The Assessor is expected to:
- Deliver learner-centred, inclusive and impartial support.
- Work within the limits of their competence and professional expertise.
- Recognise when specialist intervention is required and refer appropriately.
- Maintain professional boundaries with learners, employers and colleagues.
- Protect the confidentiality and security of learner information.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the values and reputation of Educate 2Gether.
The Assessor is not responsible for providing counselling, legal advice, financial advice, medical advice, immigration advice or other specialist support outside their professional competence. Such matters must be referred to appropriately qualified internal or external services.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proficiency in early years education principles, child development, and relevant assessment frameworks
- Strong communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills for collaborating with learners and staff
- Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail for maintaining records and evaluations
- Ability to work independently and remotely while meeting deadlines
- Relevant qualifications in childcare, education, or related discipline (e.g., Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification or equivalent)
- Relevant assessor qualification (CAVA, A1 or equivalent)
- Experience in assessing learning and development within a training or educational setting
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and regulations
- IT proficiency for managing online assessments and communication
- Occupational experience in Early Years settings
