Are you an ecologist looking to develop your experience across a diverse range of terrestrial ecology projects? Do you enjoy ecological fieldwork and want to build your technical and consultancy skills alongside experienced ecologists? We're looking for an Ecologist to join our growing team, supporting the delivery of terrestrial ecology projects across the Northwest, Midlands and beyond. Working alongside experienced Senior and Principal Ecologists, you'll contribute to projects across a wide range of sectors, including water, energy, infrastructure and conservation. As part of the wider APEM Group, you'll also have opportunities to work with specialists across disciplines including fisheries science, hydrology, hydrogeomorphology and water quality.
In this role, you'll undertake a variety of ecological field surveys and contribute to habitat and protected species assessments, data analysis and technical reporting. You'll have the opportunity to build your experience across different areas of terrestrial ecology, develop your project management and client-facing skills, and take on increasing responsibility as your experience grows.

To be successful in this role, you'll have:
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.
- Experience conducting Phase 1 Habitat and / or UK Habitats Classification surveys.
- Experience of writing Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and/or protected species survey reports.
- Experience of conducting protected species surveys.
- Sound knowledge and practical application of UK environmental and wildlife legislation.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the Northwest, Midlands and occasionally further afield, including overnight stays where required.
Desirable:
- Botanical ID skills including experience of UK Hab and condition assessments.
- Hold at least one protected species survey licence.
- Experience of using GIS systems such as QGIS to produce professional maps.
- Experience of managing small-scale projects and / or sections of larger scale projects.
- Experience of delivering client facing tasks such as Ecological Clerk of Works.
- Experience of using bat data analysis software such as Kaleidoscope.
