The evidence behind the restoration
Full time
Scotland
This is your chance to gather the evidence that shapes the future of some of Scotland’s most remarkable landscapes. Everything we restore, we restore on the strength of what the data tells us, and you will be the person out there supporting its collection.
As our Ecology Intern, you’ll support work across our Scottish estates, helping with field surveys, recording habitat condition, and turning that raw field data into the evidence base shaping how we restore these landscapes. Working closely with specialist consultants, and our environment and estate teams, you’ll see first-hand how this evidence feeds into management plans, funding applications and the natural capital products those landscapes generate.
We have so much exciting work ahead that we would love you to start with us in early 2027, right at the beginning of the survey season.
Closing date: 02/11/2026
About You
Environment
- A love for the natural world and rural environment, and a commitment to its ecological restoration.
- Strong knowledge of UK habitats and species legislation, particularly upland and peatland systems. This could be gained through an ecology, environmental science or related background, academic, practical, or a mix of both.
- Familiar with, or quick to learn, standard survey methods and condition assessment.
Impact
- Disciplined with data, because great records are what make great decisions about how we restore these landscapes.
- Able to turn field notes into clear findings and communicate them well, so your colleagues can act on what you have seen.
- A love for survey work and for spending hours out on the estates, immersed in the species and habitats you are recording.
Adventure
- Excited by the opportunity to spend long days out on Scottish hill ground, in every kind of weather Scotland has to offer.
- Committed to staying safe and well in remote terrain, and physically ready for the days the work asks for.
- A driving licence is essential given the location of our estates.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
