Role Description
The Ecology & Senior Ecologist roles are full-time remote positions responsible for delivering high-quality ecological services to a range of clients. Day-to-day tasks include:
- Planning and conducting ecological field work
- Leading and participating in wildlife and botanical surveys
- Preparing clear, robust ecological reports and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) inputs

- Interpreting survey data
- Assessing ecological constraints and opportunities
- Advising on mitigation, compensation, and enhancement measures
Ecology and Senior Ecologist team members will:
- Liaise with clients and regulators
- Manage project timelines and resources
- Support junior colleagues through mentoring and technical review
Senior Ecologists will additionally:
- Lead projects
- Guide survey strategies
- Provide oversight on complex assessments and stakeholder engagement
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in wildlife ecology, including survey, identification, and assessment of protected and priority species.
- Proficiency in field work methods, including habitat surveys, species monitoring, and data collection in varied outdoor conditions.
- Strong botany skills, including accurate plant identification and habitat classification relevant to local and national guidance.
- Experience in report writing, producing clear, evidence-based ecological reports and contributions to Environmental Impact Assessment.
- Understanding of Environmental Impact Assessment processes, legislation, and planning policy relevant to ecological considerations.
- Relevant degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline; postgraduate qualifications or professional accreditation (e.g., membership of a professional ecological body) are an advantage.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Competence with GIS or mapping tools, data analysis, and standard ecological survey equipment; a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field work are beneficial.
