F.H. Brundle | Ecommerce Executive | Job Specification
The Company
When Frederick Henry Brundle founded the company in 1889, his success was based on careful product selection and diversification. Now, over 135 years and 5 generations later, F.H.Brundle is still a family business. It is owned and run by Michael Brundle as Managing Director, and after operating as a partnership for most of that time, it incorporated as an unlimited company later in 2010.
F.H.Brundle is a wholesale specialist in the supply of a wide range of metal building and fabrication products to the trade. It stocks over 11,000 product lines and is constantly expanding the product range to add to its specialist reputation in the supply of wire mesh fencing and railing, clamps, flooring and grating, and wrought iron products. It supplied products to over 40,000 different customers last year.
F.H.Brundle can proudly claim to be leading wholesale suppliers in their product ranges – but it still maintains those traditional values first established back in the 1880s. The company puts great store on the value of retaining the personal touch. It employs its own fleet of delivery vehicles and ensures that staff at each of its branches place customer service right at the top of their list of priorities.
The business has a tremendous record of growth and is testament to the family’s commitment to reinvesting surplus profits within the business. It is in the enviable position of being able to fund organic expansion and growth by acquisition from retained earnings. Despite the broader economic climate, the business is strong and looking forward to expansion, not just in terms of overall size, but in the range of markets it serves. The company has an excellent record of growth in recent years, and the current management is keen to expand further – both through organic growth as well as via making opportunistic acquisitions as and when they arise.
Structure & Management
F.H.Brundle serves the UK from a network of seven branches in Rainham, Ilkeston, Birmingham, Southampton, Newton-le-Willows, Newport and Glasgow. The business has a headcount of around 300 people with a flat departmental and branch management structure. In 2017, to release the pressure on the branches, F.H.Brundle opened a central distribution centre in Burton-on-Trent. This 270,000 square feet of warehousing provides the business with the capability to re-supply the network's branches, allowing F.H.Brundle to fulfil the company's promise that "any customer should be able to receive the products they want, in the quantities required to an agreed time frame".
F.H.Brundle is proud of their record as regards staff retention and loyalty. Employees are regarded as key to the success of the business, and they are encouraged to excel in an open and friendly environment. The focus is on customer service throughout the business and on maintaining personal service at branch level.
F.H.Brundle is moving into an exciting time in the company’s development. As digital sales and web revenue continue on a steady and rapid growth trajectory, the business is investing heavily in enhancing its digital infrastructure and modernising operations. Smarter working, enhanced systems, and modern digital capabilities are central to boosting overall business effectiveness over the coming decade. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
