E-Commerce Manager

This is a hands-on role with real ownership.

As E-Commerce Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of foliosociety.com, while also leading the longer-term projects that will improve how our customers discover and buy our books.

Your first major project will be a big one: our migration to Shopify. You’ll play a central role in getting us successfully onto the platform and, importantly, making sure we take full advantage of what Shopify can offer once we’re there.

We’re looking for someone who knows Shopify, understands what makes a brilliant DTC e-commerce experience and is equally happy digging into the detail of website performance as they are thinking about where our digital experience should go next.

You’ll work closely with teams across Marketing, Customer Services, Operations and Technology, as well as our external development and digital partners.

About The Folio Society

Folio is an employee-owned, independent publisher that has thrilled and delighted a band of dedicated readers since 1947. Today, from our workspace in the heart of London’s vibrant Shad Thames, we continue that tradition by crafting exquisite, illustrated editions for book lovers of all ages.

We publish books that have changed the world, books that entertain us, books that blow our minds … books that have stitched themselves into who we are. Which is why every Folio book is a labour of love, expertise and, frankly, obsession.

Our team of editors, designers and artisans will do whatever it takes to give each title everything it deserves, from outstanding intellectual firepower to extraordinary craftsmanship. Available exclusively from Folio through our website, for book lovers around the world, every book we make is a miniature work of art and we take pride in every single one.

What you'll be doing:

Owning the Folio website

  • Take day-to-day ownership of the Folio Society website and work with the E-Commerce Executive on site merchandising, navigation, product discovery, landing pages and the overall customer journey.
  • Ensure launches, campaigns, promotions and new products are delivered accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a consistently high-quality digital experience across desktop and mobile.
  • Work closely with wider marketing and creative team to make sure the website brings campaigns and our books to life.
  • Identify and resolve website issues quickly, coordinating with internal teams and external developers where required.
  • Balance commercial priorities with a brilliant experience for our customers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Leading our Shopify migration

One of your first priorities will be helping lead Folio through its upcoming migration to Shopify.

You will:

  • Be a key internal owner of the Shopify migration, working alongside our development partner and internal stakeholders.
  • Bring previous Shopify experience to help inform requirements, functionality and technical decisions.
  • Represent the customer and commercial perspective throughout the project.
  • Help define requirements across merchandising, search, navigation, checkout, promotions, internationalisation, analytics, integrations and content.
  • Support migration planning, UAT, launch readiness and post-launch optimisation.
  • Build the processes and ways of working that allow Folio to get the most from Shopify after launch.

Driving e-commerce performance

  • Own and report on core website KPIs including revenue, conversion rate, AOV, traffic, bounce/engagement, checkout performance and product performance.
  • Use GA4, Shopify and other analytics tools to understand customer behaviour and identify opportunities.
  • Monitor the customer journey and identify points of friction or drop-off.
  • Develop and maintain an e-commerce optimisation roadmap.
  • Build a structured approach to CRO and testing, turning customer behaviour and data into improvements.
  • Work with wider marketing team to understand performance by channel and ensure the website effectively converts the traffic we're driving.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cross-sell, upsell, recommendations, search and product discovery.
  • Keep a close eye on trading performance and respond quickly when something isn't working as expected.

Merchandising & trading

  • Own the online merchandising calendar, working closely with Marketing and other teams around launches and campaigns.
  • Make sure the right books and stories are surfaced to the right customers at the right time.
  • Use data and customer behaviour to inform merchandising decisions rather than relying solely on instinct.
  • Optimise category and collection pages, recommendations, search results and promotional placements.
  • Support major trading periods and launches, ensuring the website is ready for increased demand.

Developing our digital experience

  • Help define Folio's longer-term e-commerce roadmap.
  • Champion the customer experience and continually look for ways to make shopping with Folio easier, more enjoyable and more inspiring.
  • Work with SEO specialists to ensure technical and on-site SEO best practice is embedded across the website.
  • Identify new Shopify functionality, apps and integrations that could improve performance or efficiency.
  • Work with CRM colleagues to develop more joined-up and personalised customer journeys.
  • Keep up with developments in DTC e-commerce and bring relevant ideas and best practice into Folio.
  • Manage relationships with development agencies and other digital suppliers, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and budgets are well managed.

You'll ideally have:

  • Strong experience managing an e-commerce website for a DTC brand.
  • Hands-on Shopify experience, ideally including involvement in a migration, replatforming or significant Shopify development project.
  • A strong understanding of e-commerce trading and digital merchandising.
  • Experience using GA4, Shopify analytics and other data sources to understand and improve performance.
  • A good understanding of CRO, UX and experimentation.
  • Experience working with developers and external agencies and confidence translating commercial requirements into clear technical briefs.
  • An understanding of SEO fundamentals and their relationship with site structure, content and website migrations.
  • Experience working across multiple teams and managing competing priorities.
  • Strong project management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • A commercial mindset and an understanding of how changes to the website ultimately affect revenue and customer behaviour.

What we're looking for

You'll be curious, commercially minded and comfortable challenging how things have always been done. You'll care about the numbers, but you'll care just as much about the experience behind them. You’ll be adept at balancing big picture and detail. And while a love of books certainly helps, what really matters is that you're excited by the opportunity to help build the next chapter of Folio's growth.

The Package

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) and the opportunity to buy more holiday
  • Hybrid working, 3 days in the office (near London Bridge)
  • Staff discount
  • All staff receive an annual profit share as part of Folio’s Employee Owned Trust

To apply please send your portfolio and a brief cover note on why you think you're suitable for the role to laurenj@foliosociety.com.
