Job Description
Purpose of the role
To support the Risk Function in delivering it’s objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.
Accountabilities
- Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
- Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
- Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services.
- Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

- To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
- Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. - OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and / or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
- Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
- Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
- Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
- Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc.) to solve problems creatively and effectively.
- Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
- Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

As a Barclays Economic Crime Risk Manager
You will support the identification, assessment and management of emerging and existing Economic Crime risks and issues. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you will help evaluate potential impacts, contribute to risk-based recommendations, and support effective risk management that enables the business to grow safely, manage risk confidently and use our understanding of Economic Crime risk as a competitive advantage.

You will develop your expertise in Economic Crime risk, applying your knowledge to provide analysis, insights, and practical support to stakeholders. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to actionable intelligence and risk assessments that help the business understand Economic Crime threats, strengthen controls, and make informed decisions, enabling safe business growth while maintaining a strong risk profile. You will also play a key role in supporting improvements to processes, management information, and intelligence capabilities.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Knowledge of Economic Crime risks, relevant regulatory requirements, and risk management frameworks, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a business environment.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess information from multiple sources, identify potential risks and issues, and support the development of proportionate recommendations and solutions.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage constructively with colleagues across different teams and levels.
Other highly valued skills include:
- Recognised Economic Crime qualification (ICA AML Diploma, ACAMS or equivalent)
- Ability to present complex Economic Crime risks, intelligence, and analysis in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience supporting change initiatives, process improvements, or continuous improvement activities.
- Familiarity with producing risk insights, management information or intelligence reporting to support decision-making.
You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
Location
This role will be based in our London or Northampton office.
