Shape the Future of Great Britain's Energy System
At Ofgem, we're driving one of the biggest transformations of our generation. As Great Britain's independent energy regulator, we protect consumers today while helping build a cleaner, more secure and more affordable energy system for the future.
The transition to Net Zero is reshaping how energy is produced, transported and consumed. As new technologies emerge and infrastructure investment accelerates, robust economic analysis and evidence-based decision-making have never been more important.
That's where you come in.
We're looking for an Economist to join our Infrastructure Economics team within the Office of Research and Economics (ORE). This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of major regulatory decisions that influence billions of pounds of energy investment, support energy consumers and help shape Great Britain's future energy system.
You'll work alongside experienced economists, analysts and policy professionals on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects spanning network regulation, major infrastructure developments and energy system reform. Whether you're assessing the impacts of regulatory proposals, developing evidence to inform policy decisions or contributing to economic analysis that shapes the energy sector, your work will have genuine national impact.
This role offers an excellent platform to strengthen your economic and analytical skills, gain exposure to complex regulatory challenges and build expertise within one of the most important sectors in the UK economy.
What You'll Be Doing
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
