Role/Job title: Edge Network Architect (LAN/WLAN/SD-WAN)

Work Location: Maidenhead, UK
Role type: Contracting (Inside IR35)
Mode of working: Hybrid (Up to 2 days on-site per week)
Duration of assignment: 6 months

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Edge Network Architect with strong expertise in Enterprise LAN, WLAN, and SD-WAN technologies, together with hands-on experience in Operational Technology (OT) network environments. The successful candidate will assess, design, and architect secure, resilient, and scalable edge networking solutions supporting both enterprise IT and operational technology environments. The role provides the opportunity to work on complex transformation and modernization initiatives involving industrial networking, cybersecurity, network segmentation, and secure connectivity.

Your responsibilities:

  • Design and develop enterprise edge network architectures covering LAN, WLAN, and SD-WAN environments.
  • Assess current-state network infrastructure and define future-state architecture strategies.
  • Produce High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) documentation.
  • Develop network transformation, migration, and modernization roadmaps.
  • Design and optimize OT network architectures across industrial and operational environments.
  • Define and implement secure IT/OT network segmentation strategies.
  • Support architecture for Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA, and related operational platforms.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to implementation and delivery teams.
  • Review solution designs, assess risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

Your Profile

Essential skills/knowledge/experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise networking architecture and design.
  • Strong expertise in LAN switching technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise WLAN solutions.
  • Proven experience designing SD-WAN architectures.
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, and network segmentation technologies.
  • Experience designing or supporting Operational Technology networks.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Ethernet, ICS, and SCADA environments.
  • Experience implementing secure IT/OT network separation and security controls.
  • Strong understanding of network security architecture and Zero Trust principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and consulting skills.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience:

  • Cisco CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure certification.
  • Cisco SD-WAN Specialist certifications.
  • Aruba Certified Design Expert accreditation.
  • Fortinet NSE certifications.
  • CISSP, GICSP, or equivalent cybersecurity certifications.
  • TOGAF or enterprise architecture framework experience.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, HPE, Fortinet, VMware VeloCloud, Juniper, or Extreme Networks technologies.
