JOALSO KNOWN IN THE MARKET AS: EDITORIAL PRODUCTION SPECIALIST; TYPESETTING
ROLE TITLE: EDITORIAL DEVELOPER
BUSINESS UNIT: UK ASSESSMENT &
QUALIFICATIONS LOCATION: LONDON/HELLABY
REPORT TO: TYPESETTING MANAGER
DESCRIPTION
Turn complex assessment content into clear, accurate materials that help learners demonstrate what they know. Combine editorial judgement, production expertise and publishing technology in a role that offers scope to develop your technical skills and contribute to better ways of working.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for an Editorial Developer to join our growing in-house Typesetting team. You’ll take supplied content through typesetting, proofs and amendments, producing accessible print and digital assessment materials where accuracy matters at every stage. The work brings together established publishing tools, structured content and repeatable digital workflows. You’ll take responsibility for the quality and completeness of your assigned work, with technical guidance from a Technical Lead and allocation and scheduling support from a Production Coordinator.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Typeset assessment materials in Adobe InDesign, using approved templates and styles to bring together text, tables, artwork and page layout.
- Work with traditional documents and structured sources such as XML and AsciiDoc, preparing PDF and, where required, HTML outputs through agreed production workflows.
- Apply and check amendments through successive proofs, preserving question meaning, numbering, marks and instructions.
- Follow accessibility and modified-paper requirements, and create or adapt illustrations and graphics in Adobe Illustrator where needed.
- Keep files, versions and Jira records accurate, flagging unclear instructions or missing assets early and providing clear handovers.
- Identify recurring errors, unnecessary manual steps and opportunities for automation, sharing suggestions with colleagues to reduce avoidable rework.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience with InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Illustrator or Jira is valuable. Familiarity with structured content, HTML/CSS or scripted content-processing tools would also be useful. You do not need experience with every tool, and previous assessment-sector experience is welcome rather than essential.
LOCATION & WORKING PATTERN
This is a UK-based, fully remote role with London as the base office. Quarterly attendance at a Pearson office is expected.
WHY JOIN PEARSON?
We’re bringing more standard and modified assessment production in house. You’ll gain experience across different formats and accessibility requirements, while contributing to improvements grounded in the production work you do every day. You’ll receive onboarding and support on Pearson-specific tools, templates, standards and workflows, alongside guidance from experienced colleagues. This is a chance to build on your publishing skills in a specialist setting where careful production and better processes directly support the quality of learners' assessment materials. If you enjoy getting complex documents right and want to develop the technical skills behind their production, we’d like to hear from you.
