Be Part of a Service Where Psychology Shapes Practice, At a Unique Time in Our Journey
Cornwall is a unique place to live and work, and this is an exciting time to join our Educational Psychology Service. We are recruiting Educational Psychologists to join our experienced, welcoming and values-driven team as we continue to expand our innovative Experts at Hand programme across Cornwall.
Children and young people are at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our mission, "using psychology to enable positive change", we work across schools, communities and systems to promote inclusion and improve outcomes. Whether you are experienced, newly qualified or currently training, you will have the opportunity to influence practice, contribute to service development and build a rewarding and varied career.
The Service & Team
People and Psychology at the Heart of Practice
Cornwall's Educational Psychology Service is guided by our values of being inclusive, collaborative, child-centred, strengths-based and empowering. We believe psychology has the greatest impact when it is used across schools, services and communities, helping others develop their skills and improving outcomes over time.
Alongside core Educational Psychology practice, there are opportunities to contribute to early years development and inclusion, including work supporting the first 1001 days of a child’s life, workforce development, critical incident support and SEND improvement work.
Educational Psychologists play an important role in developing future practitioners, leading service improvement activity and contributing to initiatives including MeLSA (Mediated Learning Support Assistant), ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and our highly regarded Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) service. VIG is a key part of our strengths-based approach, helping children, families and educational settings strengthen relationships, build confidence and achieve positive outcomes.
The Role
You will work with a patch of schools and settings, delivering a blend of statutory duties and early intervention practice through consultation, training and systemic work.
Through our Experts at Hand programme, you will work alongside multidisciplinary teams alongside colleagues from education, health and care within local communities. This approach enables Educational Psychologists to contribute earlier, work more closely with partners and influence support around children and families before needs escalate. It is a unique opportunity to be part of a model that places psychology at the heart of integrated working.
As part of our highly skilled and dedicated team, you will:
- Apply psychological knowledge and practice to improve outcomes for children and young people.
- Promote learning, inclusion, emotional health and wellbeing through evidence-based psychological practice.
- Support schools, families and professionals through consultation, assessment and intervention.
- Develop person-centred and co-produced approaches to support planning and decision-making.
- Help build confidence, resilience and inclusion across educational settings.
- Deliver training and workforce development activity.
- Contribute to strategic developments across education, health and social care.
- Collaborate with colleagues across Education, Health, Social Care, SEND Support Services and the Virtual School.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
