About Hackney Education
Hackney Education provides a range of services to support the education of children, young people and adults in our inner London borough. Hackney is one of the UK’s highest performing local authorities, serving one of London’s best places to live and work. Within our diverse borough we serve a wide range of children and young people. We have a particular focus on supporting less advantaged families: Hackney figures in the 10% most deprived boroughs in England on a number of measures.
Hackney Education’s key priority is to improve the life chances of every child, young person and learner: making Hackney the most forward looking education system in the UK, where schools, settings and partners provide an exciting environment which ensures inclusion and success for everyone. We see our borough as being one of the best places in the country for young people to grow, learn, develop and achieve –and one of the best places for colleagues to work and thrive in our education system.
Job Title: Educational Psychologist
Salary: Soulbury Scale A3-A8 plus Inner London Weighting (plus SPA points – previously awarded SPA points will be honoured)
Terms and Conditions: 3 Year Fixed Term Contract, Full Time
The Educational Psychology Service is highly valued by educational settings and other professionals in Hackney. We employ a consultative style of delivery and have a commitment to development and learning opportunities for EPs to explore areas of interest. We offer EPs an opportunity to practice across diverse workstreams (Virtual school, Mental Health in Schools Teams, CAMHS roles and much more). We also have EPs connected to the London EP training courses, delivering VIG (Video Interaction Guidance) interventions and training ELSAs. We are continually refining our services, developing our anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices and exploring different ways of applying our psychological skills.
We are looking for Educational Psychologists with a clear understanding of psychology’s relevance to children’s development and who are able to operate with confidence, flexibility and professionalism in all contexts. We are looking to grow our team by a further 6 EPs on a Three Year, Fixed Term basis, as we move forward with the 2026 SEND reforms and develop our local Experts at Hand Offer. We would be happy to consider applications from TEPs in their third year, as well as experienced EPs. We are looking for EPs who can demonstrate a reflective approach to practice and good interpersonal skills in order to contribute to the service both as an individual and member of the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
