Educational Psychologist – 3 Month Contract
Location: Surrey County Council
Rate: Up to £600 per day (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
Surrey County Council is in search of a skilled and qualified Educational Psychologist to temporarily join its Educational Psychology Service. This role involves working in a collaborative, multi-professional setting to deliver top-notch psychological consultation, assessment, advice, and intervention. The aim is to support children and young people in schools, early years settings, and specialized provisions. The position requires collaboration with schools, families, and partner agencies to enhance educational outcomes, contribute to statutory SEND processes, and ensure that children and young people receive the necessary support to address their needs.
Key Responsibilities
Psychological Consultation & Assessment
- Offer psychological consultation to schools, SENCOs, teachers, parents, carers, and partner agencies.
- Conduct specialized psychological assessments as needed.
- Perform classroom observations and evaluate learning environments.
- Provide recommendations and feedback to schools and families.
- Keep accurate records and update electronic systems as necessary.
SEND & Statutory Duties
- Deliver statutory psychological advice within designated timeframes.
- Participate in Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes.
- Attend and contribute to Annual Reviews.
- Support the Local Authority's SEND statutory responsibilities.
- Participate in SEN Panels as required.
- Assist with preparation and representation for SEND Tribunals.
- Monitor and review specialist placements when appropriate.

Early Years Support
- Offer consultation and assessment for children in Early Years settings.
- Assist parents, carers, and providers in addressing children's SEN needs.
- Contribute to multi-agency assessment processes.
- Provide advice and consultation to Early Years providers.
School Improvement & Training
- Support mainstream schools, special schools, and alternative provision settings.
- Conduct training and workshops for educational professionals.
- Promote inclusive practices and enhance learning environments.
- Aid schools in developing effective strategies for children with additional needs.
Service Development
- Engage in peer supervision and team meetings.
- Contribute to area and countywide Educational Psychology initiatives.
- Participate in continuous professional development activities.
- Support service development and project work as needed.
Essential Requirements
- Honours Degree in Psychology.
- Postgraduate Qualification in Educational Psychology.
- Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society (BPS), or eligibility to obtain it.
- HCPC Registration as an Educational Psychologist, or eligibility for registration.
- Experience working with children and young people in educational, childcare, or community settings.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Educational Psychology practice
- SEND legislation and guidance
- Psychological assessment and consultation models
- Inclusive education
- Excellent communication, consultation, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable
- Experience attending SEND Tribunals.
- Experience delivering training to education professionals.
- Experience supervising Trainee Educational Psychologists.
- Involvement in service development, research, or specialist projects.
