Job Title: Apprentice, EHS (Level 3)
Reports to: Associate Director, EHS
Department: Environment, Health and Safety
Hours: Monday – Friday (core office hours)
Location: Stevenage with occasional travel to London (White City) when/as required

Role Summary
This is an entry-level position offered as a Level 3 apprenticeship under a 24-month fixed-term contract. It is designed for individuals looking to begin a career in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), particularly within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector.

As an EHS Apprentice, you will work closely with the EHS team to support the day-to-day implementation of health, safety and environmental policies at our GMP manufacturing site in Stevenage. You’ll gain practical, hands-on experience across a range of EHS activities, while completing a structured training programme through an approved apprenticeship provider.
The apprenticeship leads to a nationally recognised qualification: Safety, Health and Environment Technician – Level 3. Throughout the programme, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to help ensure a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible workplace.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the overall implementation and continuous improvement of the EHS Management System, including policies, procedures and risk assessments.
- Assist with the completion of routine safety inspections and audits.
- Actively participate in site EHS Committee meetings.
- Help triage reported incidents and support investigations, including tracking corrective and preventative actions.
- Support and participate in training delivery, site inductions and safety awareness campaigns across the site.
- Scheduling vaccination clinics and booking Occupational Health Surveillance appointments.
- Contribute to sustainability initiatives, waste management and energy usage tracking.
- Maintain accurate EHS records in line with regulatory and company requirements.
- Monitor the EHS mailbox and respond to general queries and support requests.
- Work collaboratively with departments including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering and Facilities.
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation and industry best practices.
Demonstrated skills and competencies
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including English, Maths and a Science subject (E)
- Interest in health, safety, and environmental protection in a scientific or manufacturing setting (E)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills (E)
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges (E)
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude (E)
- Eligible to work in the UK (E)
- Familiarity with basic Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) (D)
- Previous work experience, voluntary work, or school projects related to science, healthcare, or safety (D)
- Enthusiasm for a career in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry (D)
