Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Officer

We are seeking a proactive and motivated Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Compliance Officer to join our Compliance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within the Environmental, Health & Safety and Compliance. Working closely with the EHS team, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, client requirements, and accreditation schemes, while contributing to the continual improvement of our ISO management systems.

The role is varied and hands-on, involving regular travel to operational sites across the UK and Europe, where you will work closely with operational teams, clients and subcontractors to promote high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.

We are looking for someone who is organised, curious, eager to learn and capable of working independently whilst also contributing as part of a collaborative team.

What you’ll be doing as our EHS Compliance Officer:

  • Conduct regular Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) inspections and audits across operational sites throughout the UK and Europe, providing professional EHS advice to project teams, producing clear reports, and monitoring corrective actions through to completion.
  • Provide administrative support in the management and renewal of industry accreditations, including CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, Considerate Constructors Scheme, and other relevant Health & Safety certifications.
  • Assist in maintaining and continually improving the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS), supporting certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 27001.
  • Participate in the assessment of subcontractor compliance through regular reviews and performance monitoring.
  • Aid in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses, helping to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive action.
  • Prepare EHS communications, toolbox talks, presentations and awareness campaigns to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Build positive working relationships with operational teams, clients and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with supplier pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs) and maintain compliance databases and records.
  • Support wider compliance initiatives and continuous improvement projects across the business.

What we’re looking for in our EHS Compliance Officer:

Essential

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction Certificate.
  • Experience working within Health & Safety, Environmental, and Compliance functions, or a strong desire to develop a career in EHS.
  • Good understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and general compliance principles.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, manage priorities and take ownership of tasks.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness and able to travel throughout the UK and Europe, including overnight stays where required.

Desirable

  • Relevant Degree in health sciences, environmental science, civil engineering, or a construction-related discipline.
  • Exposure to ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or ISO 27001).
  • Knowledge of, or involvement in, organisational Net Zero, sustainability, or carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Experience carrying out EHS inspections or audits.
  • IOSH Membership (or working towards professional membership).
