I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This is a practical, hands-on position where you will take ownership of the day-to-day EHS requirements across the site, supporting employees and working closely with the Operations Manager to maintain standards and drive improvements.
The site has a good culture and a hands-on Operations Manager, and there are no direct reports within the role. You will therefore need to be comfortable working independently, identifying what needs to be done and taking action without needing significant direction.
About The Site
The site is a relatively small and straightforward manufacturing environment, producing cement-based products.
There are approximately 50–60 employees across the wider Scottish operation, with around 30 employees based within the factory, alongside additional employees involved in areas such as training.
The site is not a highly complex manufacturing environment, but there are ongoing opportunities to improve EHS standards and environmental performance. You will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact by identifying areas for improvement and seeing them through to completion.
