RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary:
The Health & Safety Specialist supports the implementation and day-to-day management of Health & Safety systems within UK manufacturing and operational sites. Working closely with site leadership and the wider EHS team, the role helps ensure compliance with UK legislation, promotes safe working practices, and supports the development of a positive safety culture.
Onsite: Falmouth, Cornwall UK
Health & Safety Compliance & Support
- Support the implementation of company Health & Safety policies, procedures, and programmes at site level.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and internal standards.
- Help maintain site risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work.
- Provide practical Health & Safety advice to managers, supervisors, and employees.

Operational Safety Activities
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and safety tours, reporting findings and tracking corrective actions.
- Support risk management activities covering:
- Machinery and equipment safety
- COSHH and safe handling of substances
- PPE and safety signage
- Manual handling and ergonomics
- Contractor and visitor safety
- Traffic management and general workplace safety
- Assist operational teams in identifying hazards and implementing suitable controls.
Incident & Performance Management
- Support the reporting, investigation, and recording of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
- Assist with root cause analysis and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Help compile Health & Safety performance data and reports for site review.
Training & Engagement
- Support delivery and coordination of Health & Safety training and inductions.
- Assist in maintaining training records and competency matrices.
- Promote employee engagement in Health & Safety activities and initiatives.
- Support behavioural safety and safety awareness programmes.
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist with emergency planning arrangements, including fire safety and first aid.
- Support evacuation drills and emergency response exercises.
- Help ensure emergency equipment and facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

Essential
- NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or working towards a recognised Health & Safety qualification.
- 1–3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Willingness to spend time on the shop floor and engage with operational teams.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a regulated or medical device environment.
- Experience supporting audits and incident investigations.
Skills & Attributes
- Clear communication and good interpersonal skills.
- Practical, hands-on approach to Health & Safety.
- Organised with good attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Keen to learn and develop professionally within an EHS career path.
Work Environment
- Combination of office-based work and time spent on the manufacturing/shop floor.
- Occasional lifting up to 20kg, in line with risk assessments and safe lifting practices.
As an employee of CooperSurgical, you'll receive a competitive total compensation plan. Your recruitment team will be able to share more information about any variable pay opportunity and benefit package that accompanies this role. The good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is 30,000 to 35,000 Pounds annually. The actual amount offered is determined by a number of factors including but not limited to location, skills and experience.
