Role Summary
This role is an opportunity for an experienced or developing EICA/Electrical Design Engineer to take ownership of practical, buildable EICA design solutions across multidisciplinary engineering projects. The successful candidate will apply strong electrical, instrumentation, control and automation knowledge to deliver safe, efficient and commercially robust designs, while working closely with design managers, site teams, suppliers and clients to turn engineering requirements into reliable project outcomes.
The EICA Design Engineer will bring a strong understanding of the quality, safety and commercial drivers behind successful project delivery. The role suits someone who enjoys solving practical engineering problems, influencing design decisions and promoting electrical safety through robust equipment selection, installation standards and technical guidance across the wider organisation.
The role may also include supporting Coffey projects in Ireland, primarily through internal design checks, technical reviews and occasional direct design input where required.

Key responsibilities
- Support the Design Manager in delivering Coffey Group EICA design work across the UK for public and private sector clients, with occasional support to projects in Ireland.
- Perform preliminary and detailed EICA design for electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems across project delivery stages.
- Use appropriate engineering software and design tools to develop calculations, drawings, schedules and technical advice that support successful contract delivery.
- Developing and adopting standards in design to streamline engineering tasks.
- Liaise and develop relationships with external consultants, supply chain partners, contractors and other stakeholders.
- Determine applicable design, installation and client standards, and ensure they are correctly interpreted and applied throughout project delivery.
- Mentor, train and support engineers and technicians within the EICA team, helping to develop technical capability, consistency and confidence across the discipline.
- Developing cable schedules, block diagrams, and single line diagrams.
- Ability to plan and develop electrical layout drawings, including cable runs and ducts, using CAD packages or Software as applicable.
- Developing motor and instrumentation schedules.
- Develop drive schedules, load schedules and associated electrical design deliverables.
- Developing of hardwired interlock schedules.
- Develop I/O schedules, functional design specifications and control philosophies for EICA systems and associated control interfaces.
- Contribute to functional design specifications.
- Support and attend FAT and SAT activities for MCCs, control panels and associated EICA systems, including technical review of test documentation and resolution of design queries.
- Inspection and assessment of electrical installations.
- Assist the development of commissioning procedures and project specific plans.
- Assisting the commercial/estimating team members in developing CAPEX and OPEX models for electrical, instrumentation, control and automation equipment and systems.
- Technical specification and report writing.
- Occasional travel to project sites will be required.

Essential
- Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in EICA/Electrical design, ideally within industrial, process, utilities or infrastructure projects.
- Professional membership of a relevant engineering institution, or evidence of actively working towards professional registration.
- Proven experience in delivery of technical designs.
- Excellent technical and commercial knowledge of electrical infrastructure design, construction, and commissioning.
- Experience in electrical installations, MCCs, SCADA, PLCs and associated EICA systems.
- Familiarity with site power distribution, cabling, pumps, DOL and star-delta starters, variable speed drives, motorised plant and instrumentation commonly used within EICA design.
- Strong organisational skills and report writing experience with experience of relevant electrical standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software and the ability to review, mark up and coordinate technical drawings.
- Full and Clean UK/EU driving licence.
