About The Role
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Elective Orthopaedic Theatre team at Pinderfields Hospital.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with extensive orthopaedic experience to become an integral part of our dynamic team.

Main duties
The Band 6 Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist is an experienced Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) who provides expert clinical leadership within the Orthopaedic Theatre team.
The post holder will have extensive elective and trauma orthopaedic experience with advanced scrub competence in major and complex hip, knee and shoulder surgery and will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and effective delivery of the elective orthopaedic service at PGH.
This includes proactive planning and coordination of theatre lists in line with the 6-4-2 planning process, reviewing upcoming operating schedules, sourcing specialist instrumentation and implants from across the Trust, HSDU and external providers, liaising with company representatives to coordinate support, and arranging loan equipment to ensure all resources are available for complex procedures.
The role also includes providing clinical leadership, supporting the education and development of colleagues, promoting evidence-based practice and driving continuous service improvement to maintain the highest standards of patient care and theatre performance.

Qualifications
- NMC (Registered Nurse) or HCPC (ODP) registration
- Relevant degree (or equivalent experience)
- Evidence of post-registration study at Level 6 (specialist modules/qualifications)
- Mentorship/Teaching/Practice Supervisor/Assessor preparation
Experience
- Substantial perioperative experience in a specialist field (scrub, anaesthetics or PACU)
- Experience coordinating lists and supervising staff
- Evidence of teaching, assessment and mentorship
- Participation in audits, equipment trials or QI projects
Knowledge and Awareness
- Specialist knowledge across a range of perioperative procedures
- Understanding of NatSSIPs/LocSSIPs, IPC, safeguarding, consent and governance frameworks
- Awareness of AfC factors and Band 6 role expectations
Skills And Abilities
- Advanced clinical decision-making and problem-solving
- Highly developed manual/dexterity skills for complex theatre procedures
- Effective communication of complex/sensitive information with empathy and reassurance
- Ability to teach, mentor, assess and supervise staff and learners
- IT literacy for audit and documentation
