About the Role

The Electoral Services Team at Central Bedfordshire Council administers 230,000 electors for this busy unitary authority which is growing rapidly. As a council we are committed to balancing growth with sustainability and quality of life and joining this efficient and customer-focused service will suit a motivated individual who is passionate about supporting the democratic process and can help reshape the electoral landscape.

The role is based at our offices in Stotfold but travel to different locations across the Council’s area will be necessary. Additionally, at election times you will need to be able to work unsociable and extended hours and occasionally some weekends.

We are looking for someone with excellent customer care, IT skills and strong written and oral communication. The postholder must be highly organised, flexible and be able to work with a team to meet tight non moveable deadlines. Previous experience working within elections and electoral registration is preferable. The ability to plan, prioritize and work on own initiative is essential.

The postholder will be part of the team responsible for producing and maintaining the electoral register including supporting the annual canvass and managing elections and referenda for the area. A key area of responsibility will be to assist in creating an engagement strategy for registration in the hard-to-reach groups and under 18s. This will require you to drive to Care Homes, Schools, Universities and other community locations to promote democracy and registration.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
