Electrical and Automation Engineering Associate Manager
Electrical & Automation Engineer – MSC Cruises Your Purpose
The Electrical & Automation Engineer supports the Director of Technical Engineering & Guarantee in driving technology development and research initiatives across MSC Cruises’ maritime projects. As a subject matter expert in electrical and automation systems, this role contributes to:
- Development of technical specifications
- Design reviews
- Plan approval activities
- Technology assessments for newbuilding, conversion, and retrofit projects.
The incumbent provides technical leadership in:
- Evaluating, selecting, and implementing innovative marine electrical and automation technologies
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, classification rules, industry best practices, and MSC Cruises’ operational standards.
The role also offers specialist technical support to the Guarantee Team, including:

Investigating, assessing, and resolving warranty and guarantee issues related to electrical and automation systems.

Acting as the technical authority in:
- Identifying root causes of failures
- Evaluating corrective actions
- Supporting technical discussions with shipyards and suppliers
- Ensuring lessons learned are incorporated into future vessel designs and fleet standards.

Continuous monitoring of emerging technologies and industry developments to support MSC Cruises’ innovation strategy and deliver safe, reliable, and efficient vessels.
Your Impact
- Collaborations & Due Diligence
- Maintains professional relationships with shipyards, Classification Societies, regulators, equipment manufacturers, consultants, and industry organisations.
- Monitors developments in the electrical and automation domain.
- Development & Compliance
- Supports procedure design, inspection programs, testing schedules, commissioning strategies, and technical standards.
- Assesses technical viability, maturity, and commercial readiness of emerging technologies.
- Project Leadership
- Leads/coordinates technical reviews and plan approvals for:
- Newbuilding projects
- Conversion programmes
- Retrofit initiatives
- Leads/coordinates technical reviews and plan approvals for:
- Documentation & Oversight
- Reviews and approves technical documentation from shipyards, designers, consultants, and suppliers to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Monitors timely resolution of technical comments and design review observations during the plan approval process.
- Technical Guidance
- Provides recommendations and engineering guidance to:
- Shipyards
- Suppliers
- Internal stakeholders
- Provides recommendations and engineering guidance to:
- Research & Development
- Participates in technical meetings, workshops, site visits, factory tours, and stakeholder engagements to support R&D efforts.
- Maintains an up-to-date understanding of:
- Marine electrical technologies
- Industry trends
- Regulatory developments
- Operational feedback from fleets.
- System Development
- Collaborates in design development, technical reviews, and evaluations to ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
- Project Execution & Testing
- Particiaptes in:
- FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests)
- HATs (Harbour Acceptance Tests)
- SATs (Site Acceptance Tests)
- Commissioning activities
- Shipyard inspections
- Sea trails
- Particiaptes in:
- Guarantee & Quality Assurance
- Acts as the Electrical & Automation SME for warranty issues across:
- Fleet operations
- Newbuilding projects.
- Conducts technical root cause analyses of equipment failures to improve reliability and performance.

Your Journey So Far
Qualifications & Background
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Marine Electrical Engineering
- Automation Engineering
- Electro-Technical Engineering
- or a related engineering discipline.
Professional Experience
- Preferred:
- Experience as an Electro-Technical Officer on board.
- Desired:
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent professional accreditation).
- Critical Experience (Shipbuilding & Marine Sector)
- Decade(s) of experience in:
- Cruise shipbuilding
- Ship design
- Marine engineering
- Offshore/maritime industries.
- Decade(s) of experience in:
- Specialised Technical Knowledge
- Hands-on expertise with:
- Marine electrical power generation/distribution systems
- Vessel automation systems
- Control systems
- Marine electrical equipment
- Hands-on expertise with:
- Collaborative & Regulatory Experience
- Working with:
- Multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Shipyards
- Classification Societies
- Equipment suppliers.
- Familiarity with document review processes:
- Technical specifications
- Engineering documentation
