About HDR

At HDR, we are proud to be employee-owned. That means our people share in our success, have a genuine voice in our future and are empowered to make decisions that create lasting value for our clients, communities and one another. We are building an inclusive, collaborative workplace where every employee-owner is respected, encouraged to contribute fresh ideas and inspired to consider a powerful question: what impact will our work have on the world?

Join a business at the forefront of the energy transition. Our teams engineer utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), help stabilise modern grids and respond to the rapidly growing energy demands of AI. As data-centre racks move beyond the megawatt class, we are helping lead the shift towards DC power distribution and designing efficient, resilient DC-to-DC conversion systems for the next generation of digital infrastructure.

About the Role

We are looking for an accomplished Electrical Associate Director / Technical Team Lead to join HDR’s Global Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice. As part of our Tech/Media/Telecom & Data team, you will work with world-renowned technology and AI clients on complex hyperscale data-centre campuses from early strategy and concept design through to delivery. You will combine technical authority, people leadership and commercial judgement to shape high-performing teams and landmark projects across the UK and internationally.

This is an opportunity to be recognised by clients as a trusted partner, by colleagues as an inspiring technical leader and by the industry as a champion of engineering excellence. As an employee-owner, you will help shape how we grow, strengthen our technical community and deliver work that has a meaningful, lasting impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical solutions
    • Act as the senior technical point of contact for clients, building trusted relationships and guiding projects from concept through to successful delivery.
    • Provide authoritative leadership across electrical engineering systems, including power distribution and generation, critical backup systems, energy management and resilient infrastructure.
    • Set the standard for technical quality, ensuring designs achieve exceptional levels of innovation, performance, safety, sustainability and reliability.
    • Champion advanced engineering tools, digital design technologies and emerging AI capabilities to improve decision-making and deliver better project outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
