Power Software & Controls – CAD Engineer
Location: Derry / Londonderry
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented CAD Engineer to join our dynamic software department, which specializes in the configuration, testing, and deployment of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), control systems, and power monitoring systems.
The CAD Drawing Engineer will support the Power Software & Controls team by producing and maintaining high-quality technical drawings and documentation for electrical systems and control architectures. This role bridges engineering design and project execution, ensuring accurate representation of power systems, control panels, wiring layouts, and integration schematics. The position requires close collaboration with electrical engineers, software/control specialists, and project teams to deliver precise, standards-compliant drawings that support manufacturing, installation, and commissioning activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in automation and control engineering, working alongside a team of experts in a fast-paced and innovative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain detailed CAD drawings, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and system integration drawings.
- Translate engineering concepts, specifications, and design inputs into accurate and structured technical drawings.
- Support Power and Controls engineers in the design and documentation of UPS systems, switchgear, control panels, and automation systems.
- Ensure all drawings comply with company standards, industry regulations, and project-specific requirements.
- Manage drawing revisions, version control, and documentation updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design issues and incorporate feedback into updated drawings.
- Assist in preparing documentation packages for manufacturing, installation, and client delivery.
- Maintain organized records of drawings and technical documentation within project databases or PLM systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and workflows.
- Support site or commissioning teams by updating “as-built” drawings when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
