Electrical & Controls Technician
North East, United Kingdom
Salary: £55,000 DOE + benefits
Jackson Hogg is delighted to be working with a leading UK marine infrastructure business offering end-to-end supply chain solutions, employing over 1,400 people in the UK. This client operates out of 11 key marine infrastructure and logistics centres across the UK, committed to retaining and developing talent nationwide.
Location: Teesside
Working Arrangements: Permanent, Monday - Friday, fully on-site
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create electrical control systems including PLCs, SCADA, and automation hardware/software. Development of functional design specifications.
- System Integration: Collaborate with multi-disciplined engineering teams to integrate electrical controls into wider systems.
- Testing & Commissioning: Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical equipment.
- Maintenance & Optimization: Carry out routine maintenance tasks including system backups, to ensure high availability and reliability of control systems, improve efficiency, and reduce downtime.
- Fault Finding & Diagnostics: Carry out fault finding on electrical and control systems to return equipment back to service as early as possible, implementing fixes to stop repeat occurrences.
- Compliance: Implement electrical & control engineering statutory, third-party design codes & standards in line with health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Documentation: Prepare technical reports, manuals, and system documentation.
- Project Support: Provide technical input during project planning, execution, and handover.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Education: B Eng/M Eng in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related field (or can demonstrate relevant industrial working to the same level)
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens Simatic Manager & TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley, Bachmann M-PLC or similar IEC61131-1 programming suite)
- Knowledge of SCADA, HMI systems
- Knowledge of AC and DC motor drives (Siemens, ABB)
- Strong understanding of electrical & control schematics
- Familiarity with industrial automation and instrumentation
- Working knowledge of industrial communication systems (Profibus, Profinet, RS232, FO, TCP/IP)
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
