About the Role
Nestlé Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products. These are produced through a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines. It is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffeemate. The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing Lean/TPM processes so it’s an exciting time to be involved.
We are recruiting for an experienced Electrical day-based Technician, to join our team based at our coffee manufacturing factory in Dalston, Cumbria. This is a permanent opportunity which will report into the Manufacturing Maintenance Manager.
You’ll be part of a team of 24, split between day based and shift-based Technicians. The shift team is made up of 1 Lead and 5 shift Technicians split between Manufacturing, Filling & Packing department and Industrial Services. The day-based team consists of 5 Technicians, split 3 mechanical fitters and 2 electricians. The day-based role is predominately planned preventative maintenance however you would be expected to support the shift-based team during breakdowns. For this role, you will be the 1 off the electrically biased day-based Technician for Manufacturing.
Previous experience in a Food Manufacturing environment is highly recommended. The main bulk of the process involves the following: 2 off Spray Driers and 2 off Evaporators. The auxiliary parts of the process uses the following; pumps, motors, valves manifolds, homogenisers, pasteuriser, separators, blowing systems, vibratory sieves, and much more.

Essential qualifications
- 18th Edition trained
- Minor Works and Compex
- PLC (Rockwell) and Instrumentation (BEAMEX) knowledge
You’ll be working on a Manufacturing plant, some experience of the working in confined spaces, working at height, high pressure pipework and ATEX/DSEAR environments would be beneficial.
Your impact
You will support the factory in ensuring timely and efficient completion of maintenance and compliance-driven tasks and management of a small industrial services team who support the business across the whole site.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Completion of critical electrical compliance preventative maintenance.
- Support with new electrical installation works and completion of remedial works found during electrical audits.
- Supporting the shift-based team with breakdowns within the plant, maximising production output and ensuring the smooth flow of the operation.
- Raising purchase orders where required, liaising with the Maintenance co-ordinator to ensure that appropriate stock levels are maintained within budgetary constraints.
- Adherence to quality standard whilst completing maintenance activities.
- Contributing to the upkeep of all relevant technical documentation.
- Participating and positively contributing to site initiatives as requested to include HACCP, ISO9002, CDM etc.
Your ingredients for success
You will have strong engineering ability along with initiative and attention to detail. Experience of modern manufacturing techniques such as 5S, LEAN and TPM would be ideal.
You will:
- Be educated to NVQ Electrical Level 3 and time served apprenticeship in an Engineering discipline.
- 18th Edition trained, PLC (Rockwell) awareness and Compex certified.
- Be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency whilst never compromising safety or product quality.
