Electrical Design Engineer
We are supporting an established engineering organisation specialising in advanced automated inspection and testing equipment to recruit an Electrical Design Engineer.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining electrical design, electronic development, and practical prototyping. You will contribute to the development of sophisticated machinery while also supporting and improving an established product range.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing electrical systems for advanced industrial machinery
- Producing electrical panel designs, PCB documentation, and machine wiring layouts
- Specifying and designing wiring looms
- Supporting the mechanical design of electromechanical components
- Building and testing electrical and electronic prototypes
- Creating and managing electrical bills of materials
- Supporting new product development and improving existing designs
- Working collaboratively on medium-to-large engineering projects

What we’re looking for:
- A degree or equivalent practical experience in electrical or electronic engineering
- Several years’ electrical/electronic design experience within an industrial environment
- Experience designing electromechanical systems, such as robotics or production automation
- Strong electrical panel design experience, including circuit breakers, contactors, and associated components
- Experience specifying and designing wiring looms for machinery
- CAD experience—ideally AutoCAD, Inventor, or Cadstar
- Practical electrical/electronic prototyping and testing skills
- Knowledge of relevant electrical machinery and safety standards
- A proactive, adaptable approach to engineering problem-solving

The position offers hybrid working, typically with three days in the office and up to two days working remotely, depending on project requirements.
Regular travel between Colchester and Aylesbury will be required, alongside occasional international travel.
