Our world renowned engineering client in Gloucester are currently recruiting for an Electrical Design Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the electrical design of a wide range of standard and special-purpose machines for the lead-acid battery industry, and for providing technical support to other company departments.
- The Electrical Design Engineer will take technical lead responsibility on specific projects as identified by the Technical Director / Controls System Manager.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- The electrical design of standard and special purpose machines for the lead acid battery industry, examples of which are, but not limited to:
- Lead plate feeders and stackers
- Lead casting machines
- Assembly and test machines for batteries
- Robot loading and machining cells
- Carry out detailed electrical design working to in-house machine sales document and customers specifications document(s) (SSOW)
- Electrical schematics
- Detailed cabinet layouts
- Parts lists (BOM)
- Termination lists
- Electrical documentation detailing the spec of the machine
- Working closely with the mechanical & software departments ensuring the machine meets customer specifications.
- Aware and capable to carry out risk assessments for safety regulations and CE compliance.
- Responsible for electrical component selection taking into consideration standardisation, obsolescence, availability and cost.
- Responsible for preparing and presenting electrical designs at design reviews.
- Ensures design files and information are kept up to date and stored in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Highlight all electrical/technical risks to the Controls System Manager / Mechanical Team Managers.
- Keeps up to date with the latest manufacturing techniques, electrical components and drawing standards.
- Liaise with other departments to ensure that the required information is available when needed and customer requests are dealt with in a timely manner.
- Follow departmental processes relating to management of designs.
- Responsible for generation of electrical drawings and bills of materials.
- Responsible for carrying out design change requests in a timely manner.
- Responsible for reporting progress of all assigned tasks to the Team Leaders.
- Available for onsite customer support (presentations and fault finding) as required.
- To adhere to and always apply all workplace management and rules consistently.
- Embrace the values of the business and live these by example, consistent with corporate policies/procedures and legal obligations, both in the UK and overseas.
- Ensure that all Company policies and procedures are adhered to within operations area.

Person Specification
- Proven ability to understand/produce technical drawings.
- Ability to co-ordinate with the other discipline Engineers (mechanical, pneumatics and software) within the department to produce multidisciplinary design solutions.
- Able to report electrical design status on the assigned tasks whenever asked.
- Ensure the electrical design functionally meets the users requirements.
- Produce designs to specified deadlines and achieve the required timescales.
- Confident, proactive character, with ability to take the lead in challenging situations
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic
- Good communication skills, dealing with other employees and external clients at all levels.
- Excellent IT skills, especially AutoCad Electrical.
- Good written communication skills.
- Good team player
- Effective problem-solving capabilities
- Committed to undertaking professional development.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Full passport with ability to travel internationally for occasional customer visits.
