Electrical Design Engineer

About the Role
Electrical design experience within a product development environment, including machine or vehicle electrical systems.
- Experience creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, ideally for machine, vehicle, industrial, or electrified systems.
- Proficiency in Creo, including electrical harness design, routing, drawings, and supporting documentation.

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing prototype environment.
- Self-motivated and able to take ownership of tasks with limited supervision.

Working Pattern
This is a contract position supporting a fast-paced engineering team responsible for developing low-volume, pre-production, and demonstrator machines. Work typically spans concept development, detailed electrical design, machine integration, build support, testing, and validation.
The successful candidate will take ownership of electrical design deliverables and work collaboratively across disciplines to turn system requirements into practical, build-ready solutions.

What You Will Do
- Translate system requirements and component information into detailed electrical designs for electrified machine systems and subsystems.
- Create and maintain schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness definitions, covering connectors, terminals, pinouts, splices, cable and wire specification, 3D routing, flattening, and production drawings.
- Ensure electrical designs integrate effectively at machine level, resolving routing, interface, and installation constraints.
- Work closely with project, build, and validation teams throughout the development process.
- Investigate build and integration issues, determine root causes, and implement robust design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and engineering change activities.
- Support machine build, commissioning, and validation programs as required.
- Work across multiple projects and priorities within a dynamic development environment.

- Demonstrable experience delivering electrical design work within a product development environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of harness architecture and release, including component selection, connectivity definition, and manufacturing documentation.
- Competence using Creo for harness routing and drawing creation.
- Able to produce clear, controlled engineering documentation and work within formal design-change processes. Understanding of HV electrical safety principles, including insulation coordination, and creepage and clearance.
- Background in automotive, off-highway, heavy-duty equipment, industrial machinery, or a similar industry.
- Experience working on prototype, demonstrator, or pre-production products.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
