Electrical Design Engineer – Aircraft Systems Integration

Derby / Full Time / On–site

60,000 – 70,000

About The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join an established aerospace engineering organisation specialising in the design, integration and certification of aircraft modifications.

This role is focused specifically on aircraft electrical system integration and installation design.

You will work across aircraft modification programmes, developing and reviewing electrical designs that enable new and modified equipment to be safely and effectively integrated onto aircraft. This will involve understanding how different electrical systems, equipment and interfaces interact, ensuring that the overall installation is technically sound and meets the required engineering standards.

The role would suit an Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys working at system level, solving integration challenges and collaborating with engineers across multiple disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce, develop and review aircraft electrical wiring diagrams, schematics and interconnect drawings.
  • Design electrical system installations and interfaces for aircraft modification programmes.
  • Define how electrical equipment, systems and subsystems connect and communicate with one another.
  • Develop electrical installation solutions covering power, signal, control and equipment interfaces.
  • Support the integration of new and modified electrical equipment into existing aircraft systems.
  • Review existing aircraft electrical architecture and identify appropriate installation and interface solutions.
  • Work closely with mechanical, structural, avionics, systems and other engineering disciplines to ensure fully integrated solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve electrical integration issues relating to fit, function, interfaces and installation.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and other engineering stakeholders to understand requirements and develop practical solutions.
  • Produce and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation and design data.
  • Support engineering reviews and provide technical input throughout the design and modification lifecycle.
  • Ensure designs are technically robust, appropriately documented and aligned with applicable engineering procedures.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of technical issues during design, manufacture and aircraft installation.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards and documentation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Engineering Environment

The role sits within an aerospace design environment where electrical systems must be considered as part of the wider aircraft architecture.

You will therefore need to be comfortable looking beyond individual components and understanding how multiple systems interact – for example, how power, signals, wiring, equipment and interfaces come together to create a functioning aircraft installation.

Typical projects may involve the integration or modification of aircraft systems, equipment and installations across areas such as:

  • Electrical power distribution
  • Wiring and interconnect systems
  • Equipment installations
  • Avionics interfaces
  • Control and signal systems
  • Cabin/interior electrical systems
  • Aircraft modification programmes
  • New equipment integration

About You

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a background in electrical systems, installations or system integration.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Proven experience in electrical design engineering.
  • Strong experience producing and interpreting wiring diagrams, schematics and interconnect drawings.
  • Experience working at system or installation level, rather than solely on individual electrical/electronic components.
  • Understanding of electrical interfaces between different systems and pieces of equipment.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong technical problem–solving skills and the ability to investigate integration issues.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings, configuration control and technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • A methodical approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Aerospace Experience

Previous experience within aerospace is highly desirable, particularly experience involving aircraft electrical installations, modifications or systems integration.

Experience working within an aircraft design or modification environment would be advantageous, although Part 21 / Design Organisation experience is not essential.

The most important requirement is strong, practical electrical design and systems integration experience.
