Job Description

Based in Co Down, our client is a well-established engineering business who, due to continued business growth, have a need for an Electrical Design Engineer.

The successful Electrical Design Engineer will work on a range of high-profile projects, responsible for designing and reviewing electrical systems, including general power and lighting, boiler plants, chillers, circulation pumps, inverters, and BMS control equipment.

The Role

  • Develop project-specific BMS control panel drawings and operating descriptions aligned to selected plant.
  • Produce electrical schematics, layouts, and fabrication drawings.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical, HVAC, and wider MEP teams to integrate power distribution, automation, space, weight, and access requirements.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Attend project design and coordination meetings, providing technical input and design updates.
  • Work with contracts managers and commissioning teams to support commissioning.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, and relevant authorities.
  • Select high-performance MEP equipment, balancing technical performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Inspect electrical components during and after assembly, including plantroom equipment and integrated MEP systems.
  • Provide technical guidance to assembly teams to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Prepare technical submittals and coordinate design validation and approval with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Criteria

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience in building services design.
  • Experience using electrical design software.
  • Excellent time management, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and Teams.
