Electrical Design Engineer

Huddersfield | £50,000 - £55,000 | Permanent

Working Hours

  • Monday - Thursday: 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • Friday: 8:00am - 1:00pm

We’re looking for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join an established engineering team in Huddersfield, working on technically interesting, multi-disciplinary projects from initial concept through to completion.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys having genuine ownership of their designs and wants to be involved throughout the full project lifecycle — from developing the initial solution and producing detailed electrical designs, through to manufacturing, FAT and commissioning.

You’ll be joining a team where your technical knowledge will have a direct impact on the quality, performance and commercial success of the projects delivered.

The Role

Reporting to the Principal Electrical Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the electrical design scope for assigned projects, developing robust, practical and cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements and relevant industry standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the electrical design lifecycle from concept and system architecture through to detailed design, validation and delivery.
  • Providing technical engineering input during the proposal and quotation stage.
  • Producing detailed electrical control system designs using AutoCAD Electrical, including schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, fabrication drawings and interconnection schedules.
  • Selecting and specifying electrical components, instrumentation and control equipment based on performance, reliability, safety and cost.
  • Creating and maintaining accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support procurement and manufacturing.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards and customer requirements, including IEC, ATEX, UL and CSA.
  • Producing technical documentation and manuals for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) requirements.
  • Providing technical support to manufacturing, testing and operations teams.
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and site commissioning when required.
  • Working closely with mechanical, process and other engineering disciplines throughout the project.
  • Contributing to the development of internal design standards, processes and best practice.
  • Considering the commercial impact of design decisions, including their effect on project cost and profitability.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
